Job summary

Foley, Incorporated in New Jersey seeks a Marine Service Technician to diagnose repair needs and perform repairs on company and customer-owned marine propulsion engines, generators and related vessel systems.

You will troubleshoot, install, replace or repair parts, follow safety procedures, complete paperwork, and be available for after‑hours emergency calls. Strong analytical skills, self‑development mindset, and basic computer skills are required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience servicing marine diesel engines and propulsion systems.
• Ability to multitask and work with limited supervision.
• Experience assisting parts department in researching and ordering parts.
• Strong computer skills and knowledge of SisWeb and ET

Responsibilities

• Diagnose repair needs and perform repairs on marine propulsion engines, auxiliary engines, generators, and vessel systems.
• Troubleshoot and notify Service Manager of outstanding issues.
• Complete tasks with little supervision and show strong problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrate advanced technical and troubleshooting abilities.

• Verify findings by reading gauges and comparing to specs.
• Install, replace, rebuild, or repair parts promptly per specifications.
• Follow Foley safety policies and wear PPE at all times.
• Be available to respond to after-hours emergency calls as directed.
• Test equipment after service and perform quality checks.
• Secure equipment and complete all required paperwork at shift end.
• Maintain basic computer skills and good interpersonal/communication abilities.
• Possess a clean driving record and valid driver's license.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Diagnose repair needs and perform designated repairs on company and customer-owned marine propulsion engines, auxiliary engines, generators, and related vessel systems as directed.
• Perform necessary troubleshooting and notify Service Manager of outstanding issues.
• Expected to complete tasks with no/limited supervision.
• Demonstrates extremely well developed technical and troubleshooting skills with strong analytical problem-solving skills in their work unit.
• Demonstrates the need for continuous self-development and seeks every opportunity to improve their personal, technical, and interpersonal skills.
• Verified findings, review readings of gauges and procedures and compare to manufactured specs.
• Install, replace, rebuild, or repair the parts and/or equipment in a timely manner and according to specifications
• Consistently follows all Foley safety policies and procedures to include all Personal Protective Equipment being worn at all times, as well as contamination control guidelines.
• Willing to respond to after-hour emergency calls as directed by supervisor.
• Test the part or equipment and perform quality checks after work is complete.
• At the end of shift, secure all equipment and machinery and complete all required paperwork.
• Basic computer skills and good interpersonal and communications skills.
• The candidate must have a clean driving record and current driver's license.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3+ years of experience servicing marine diesel engines, marine generators, propulsion systems, heavy equipment, or related power systems. Caterpillar marine experience is preferred but not required.
• Must be able to multitask.
• Assist parts department in researching and ordering needed parts.
• Strong Computer skills preferred, knowledge of SisWeb and ET.
