Job description

Boston Harbor City Cruises is seeking a Marine Technician for our operation in Boston, MA.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

The Marine Technician position is a shoreside-based role. The qualified candidate will support a comprehensive program of maintenance and repair of the passenger vessels in the City Experiences' fleet. These vessels vary in size and construction, are USCG inspected, and are primarily powered by diesel engines. The position is based in Charlestown, Massachusetts, for the Boston and North of Boston fleet, and Quincy, Massachusetts, for the Boston and South of Boston fleet.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative maintenance on diesel engines and other machinery found on passenger vessels, including main engines, auxiliary generators, water jet propulsion equipment, marine reduction gears, hydraulic systems for steering, cranes, and thrusters.
  • Perform heavy machinery maintenance and repair, such as engine valve gear timings, injector changes, cylinder head and liner overhauls, and machinery rigging.
  • Maintain and repair water jets while vessels are in the water or in dry dock.
  • Perform plumbing repairs on pipes, valves, tanks, and pumps.
  • Troubleshoot and repair vessel electrical systems, including generators, motors, control systems, sensors, wiring, and low voltage and battery-powered systems.
  • Conduct dry dock repairs on drive lines, water jets, couplings, and shafts, supporting shipyard personnel and/or the Port Engineer.
  • Document and monitor maintenance and repairs using the company's web-based maintenance program.
  • Participate in computer-based monitoring, input of maintenance tasks, work hours, and training records.
  • Work the hours and shifts assigned by the Port Engineer.
  • Perform other marine maintenance and repair tasks as required.
  • Contribute to achieving vessel reliability through proper maintenance practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Unlicensed engine room machinery technicians with experience on motor vessels such as work boats, tugs, fishing vessels, passenger vessels, or military vessels.
  • Diesel or heavy machinery mechanics trained through a trades institution, U.S. Armed Forces, or relevant industries.
  • Basic computer skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Physical strength and agility to lift over 50 lbs, work in tight spaces, and operate safely around moving machinery and in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear safety gear such as hard hats, gloves, masks, and life vests.
  • Availability to work weekends and major holidays.
