Job summary

Summit Fire & Security, a leading fire protection provider, seeks a Marine Service Technician to install and service fire systems on marine vessels. The role includes inspections, preventive maintenance and on-site support, with required coordination for field projects.

Training is comprehensive, and the technician is expected to travel locally and internationally as needed, after gaining experience. The position emphasizes safety, NFPA standards, and customer communication.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • 0-2 years Fire Life Safety Industry experience in marine applications, required.
  • Must read, write and communicate in English.
  • 1+ years of professional computer skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to travel 90% of the time, locally.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with inspection, service and installation of Fire and Safety Equipment in marine applications.
  • Use required tools and test equipment to repair or replace fire extinguishers, pre-engineered systems, and/or fire alarm & security systems components.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of NFPA codes, standards, and systems.
  • Troubleshoot and identify defective components of pre-engineered suppression systems.
  • Repair or replace damaged components of pre-engineered suppression systems as well as fire extinguishers and/or fire alarm & security systems.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
  • Complete documentation on work orders.
  • Marine Service Technicians will be placed in on-call status as required by location.

Job description

This position involves working on a wide variety of vessels, with occasional travel to Alaska and Portland once training is complete. Responsibilities include conducting inspections on fire extinguishers, fire suppression systems, SCBA equipment, fire detection systems, fire hoses, and more.

Our department is growing, with sister offices located in Florida, Texas, New York, and Ohio. Comprehensive training will be provided. We are seeking self‑motivated individuals who are eager to develop their skills and become part of a strong, supportive team.

JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of the Marine Service Technician is to provide the installation of fire systems in marine settings.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Assist with inspection, service and installation of Fire and Safety Equipment in marine applications.
  • Use required tools and test equipment such as power machines groovers, cutters, band saw, lifts, etc. to repair or replace fire extinguishers, pre-engineered systems, and/or fire alarm & security systems components.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of NFPA codes, standards, and systems such as all types of fire extinguishers, pre-engineered suppression systems and/or fire alarm & security systems.
  • Troubleshoot and identify defective components of pre-engineered suppression systems.
  • Repair or replace damaged components of pre-engineered suppression systems as well as fire extinguishers and/or fire alarm & security systems.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
  • Required to be punctual to required work locations and complete scheduled projects in timely manner.
  • Use Field Service Lightning to track work orders, materials needed, time on job, etc.
  • Complete documentation on work orders
  • Marine Service Technicians will be placed in on-call status as required by location to handle emergency service requests.
  • Periodically attend seminars or similar education/training sessions to stay abreast of latest technology, codes, and standards changes.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
  • Understand and follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies and procedures. Participate in weekly Toolbox talks. Must know where all related safety documentation is at all times on each project.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training, Certifications:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent, required.

Experience, Knowledge, Skill Requirements:

  • 0-2 years Fire Life Safety Industry experience, specifically in Fire and Security Equipment in marine applications, required.

Communication Skills:

  • Must have the ability to effectively read, write and communicate in English with employees and customers.

Systems and Software Skills:

  • 1+ years of professional computer skills

Other Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
  • Must be able to comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer specific requirements based on contractual agreement
  • Must be able to travel 90% of the time, locally.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, ascend and descend step stools, ladders and stairs, kneel, lift <50lbs, reach above and below shoulders, stand and walk for extended periods of time. Employee is required to see in color, close and far distances, peripheral, depth, and adjust focus. Employee will occasional be required to balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift >50lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.

Frequent local travel and occasional regional and non-regional travel is required. Employee will frequently be required to work inside and outside in hot/cold temperatures and be exposed to loud noises, cramped quarters, dust, fumes and odors, standing on hard surfaces, and electrical hazards frequently. Employees will occasionally be exposed to chemicals, moving machinery, uneven and slippery surfaces. Employee must consistently wear all appropriate personal protective equipment, as required by company safety policies.
