Job summary

Lynker is seeking a Marine Passive Acoustics Scientist to support NOAA Fisheries' SEFSC Fisheries Assessment, Technology & Engineering Support (FATES) Division. The role will manage, quality-control, archive, and analyze passive acoustic data used to study marine soundscapes, fishes, marine mammals, and vessel activity along the southeastern United States.

The position is located at the SEFSC Beaufort Laboratory in Beaufort, North Carolina, with potential fieldwork and collaborations.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in marine biology, biology, data science, or equivalent with relevant research experience.
• Experience analyzing passive acoustic data.
• Willingness to participate in fieldwork.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate on large, multifaceted projects.
• Basic programming knowledge.
• Experience managing large datasets.

Responsibilities

• Manage passive acoustic data collected across the southeast.
• Quality-control and archive data.
• Analyze bottom-mounted and mobile passive acoustic data.
• Characterize marine soundscapes and species distributions.
• Prepare scientific proposals and review reports.
• Participate in stakeholder meetings, workshops, and public events.
