Birdon America Inc. is seeking a Marine Painter to join our on-site team in Bayou La Batre, AL. The role involves performing sandblasting, painting, and coating applications to MIL specifications, with emphasis on safety and clean work areas.

You will read blueprints, plan procedures, operate and maintain tools, and work in a team environment. The position offers full benefits and opportunities for skilled trades within our marine division.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year experience as a spray, brush, and roller painter in marine/aviation/automotive sectors.
• Able to read blueprints and drawings for job-specific tasks.
• Must work well in a team and follow directions independently.
• Experience with vinyl application and non-skid decking is a plus.
• Comfortable in physically demanding environments and wearing PPE.

Responsibilities

• Perform sandblasting, painting, and coating applications per MIL specs.

This position is located On-site in Portland, CT

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Perform sandblasting, painting, and other coating applications. Coating applications will be to MIL thickness specifications
• Test, record and understand all pertinent information regarding the coating application process
• Plan details of working procedures to accomplish task and plan out tool, material, and personnel requirements.
• Perform all functions in a careful and safe manner while always keeping an eye out for others in the area.
• Keep equipment and work area clean and organized. Ensure proper adherence to environmental requirements when performing the sandblasting or application process.
• Perform tasks on time and under budget.
• Perform other company duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

• Minimum of 1 years’ experience as a spray, brush, and roller painter, of epoxy and non-epoxy coatings in the marine/yacht, aviation, or automotive industries
• Must work well in a team environment
• Must be able to perform basic tasks with hand tools; Must be able to use, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment and power tools
• Ability to read blueprints, and drawings for tasks specific to a job
• Ability to follow directions and work independently
• Experience working with vinyl application preferred
• Experience laying out non-skid decking
• Experience Caulking and finishing e.g. Sika wiping
• Experience in working in a physically demanding environment, confined spaces, working at heights, and usage of respiratory protective equipment (respirator fit test and safety training required)
• Familiarity with a variety of sandblasting media and coating application materials
• Willingness to be cross trained in other marine crafts activities
• Confidentiality, tact, and discretion when dealing with people
• Detail oriented while able to continuously improve efficiency
• Reliability; Positive attitude; Desire for self-improvement
