W.W. Williams in Wakefield, MA is seeking an experienced Marine Diesel Technician to diagnose and repair inboard engines, gensets and propulsion systems, including Volvo Penta IPS and other major brands.

You will run OEM diagnostics, perform overhauls, and lead sea trials in shop, dock, and field settings. The role is senior and hands-on, with guaranteed Volvo Penta factory training, along with benefits and a clear career ladder.

Formación

• 5+ years of diesel diagnostic and repair experience with marine engines
• Experience with Volvo Penta preferred; other brands accepted (Cummins, CAT, MTU, Yanmar, John Deere)
• Strong electrical/electronic diagnostic skills and OEM software use
• Professional tools owned and in good condition
• OEM and ABYC certifications are a plus

Marine Diesel Technician – Volvo Penta | Wakefield, MA

$40-$52/hr + overtime | Paid Volvo Penta factory training

You already know diesel inside and out. Now put that skill to work on the water. W.W. Williams, through Power Products Systems, is an authorized Volvo Penta distributor. We service yachts, commercial workboats and private vessels across New England. We're looking for an experienced technician who can diagnose a problem quickly, fix it right the first time and get boat owners back on the water. This is a senior, hands-on technical role. You'll own the hardest jobs in the shop, at the dock and on sea trials.

What You'll Do

• Diagnose and repair inboard marine diesel engines, gensets and propulsion systems, including Volvo Penta IPS, inboard and sterndrive, and other major marine brands.
• Run diagnostics with Volvo Penta Vodia and other OEM software. Trace electrical, fuel, cooling and EVC/ECM faults to the root cause.
• Perform overhauls, repowers, commissioning, scheduled maintenance and emergency service in the shop, at the dock and in the field.
• Lead sea trials and verify that every vessel leaves in top operating condition.
• Be the expert customers trust: explain what you found, recommend the right repair and stand behind the work.
• Mentor newer technicians and help set the quality standard for the shop.
• Complete work orders and inspection paperwork accurately and on time.
• Work safely and follow all Company and industry safety standards on every job.

What You Bring

• 5+ years of diesel diagnostic and repair experience, with at least 2 years on marine inboard, marine genset or large-bore industrial engines.
• Hands-on experience with Volvo Penta preferred. Cummins, CAT, MTU, Yanmar or John Deere marine experience also counts.
• Strong electrical and electronic diagnostic skills, including multimeters, wiring diagrams and OEM software (Vodia preferred).
• Your own professional set of mechanic's tools, metric and SAE.
• OEM certifications and/or ABYC certification are a strong plus.
• A valid driver's license, the ability to work on vessels in all marine conditions, and a TWIC card (or the ability to obtain one).
• Pride in your work and a customer-first attitude.

This role is built for experienced technicians. If you're earlier in your career, we have other diesel technician openings where we'll train you up.
