Job summary

Evonik Corporation is seeking a Plant Manager for the Mapleton site to oversee the Fatty Acid Plant, DP, HP, Wastewater Treatment, and Warehouse operations. You will lead a diverse team, manage costs, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include coordinating with EHS&Q, Maintenance, Engineering, and HR, plus strategic planning and staff development to meet customer expectations and internal goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a chemical process plant environment with supervision and engineering responsibilities.
  • Skills with communicating/working with individuals with varied backgrounds and nationalities.
  • Strategic vision with an outlook from 0-5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of Fatty Acid Plant (FAP), Wastewater Treatment, Warehouse, Derivatives Plant (DP) and Hydrogen Plant (HP).
  • Produce products and intermediates meeting customer requirements while ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Control manufacturing costs within budgets and drive continuous improvement across multiple functions.
  • Coordinate operations with EHS&Q, Maintenance, Engineering, Capacity, Financial, and HR teams.
  • Set KPIs and targets to drive plant performance and profitability.
  • Staff and develop production workforce and participate in Mapleton plant senior management decisions.

As a manager at the Mapleton site, your responsibilities includes the entire Mapleton site. This encompasses overseeing the daily operations of the Fatty Acid Plant (FAP), Wastewater Treatment operations, and Warehouse operations, as well as the Derivatives Plant (DP) and Hydrogen Plant (HP). Your goal is to produce products and intermediates that meet or exceed the expectations of both internal and external customers while ensuring safe operations and compliance with all environmental policies and regulations.

You are responsible for controlling manufacturing costs within budgets, effective and efficient operations and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement. In addition, you must coordinate the operations of the FAP, DP, Warehouse, HP, and Wastewater Treatment with other Mapleton functional groups, such as EHS&Q, Maintenance, Engineering, Capacity, Financial, and Human Resources. As part of the site management team, you will contribute to the strategic operations of the site, including short and long-term strategic planning and project responsibility for important projects of the plant. This position ensures the staffing and developments of the production workforce.

This role has responsibility and authority in ensuring conformance and reporting of the Food Safety Management System (FSMS).

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The plant manager carries the A-Delegation for the assigned production units incl. personal liabilities (indirectly supervising hourly employees, and supervising the development of process engineers/chemists, plant engineers, and production supervisors). You are responsible for managing both the Derivatives Plant (DP) and Fatty Acid Plant (FAP) in a safe, environmentally conscious, and cost-effective manner by following corporate, Evonik and plant policies. Your goal is to meet or exceed customer requirements while protecting company assets. You must ensure that Hazardous Waste from the DP plant is managed correctly, minimize unanticipated events, and communicate DP and FAP information to the appropriate Evonik Corporation management levels.
  • You are responsible for managing the Warehouse Department to produce powdered and drummed products that meet customer requirements. Optimize inventories to minimize net working capital requirements and inventory adjustments.
  • Supervising the Hydrogen Generation Department to produce compressed air and hydrogen in a safe and efficient manner. Manage the Mapleton Wastewater Treatment Plant achieving all regulatory standards and minimizing the Greater Peoria Sanitary District (GPSD) charges and other costs.
  • Establish plant KPIs & targets to drive operations continuous improvement and ensure achievement of plants performance objectives. This includes monitoring DP , Hydrogen Plant and FAP operating data and monthly financial cost data. Analyze information to minimize variances and improve profitability. Develop ideas to improve productivity, efficiency or cost reduction. Promote the continuous improvement concept within the Plant.
  • Selects, motivates, trains, develops and ensures retention of a highly capable workforce. Apply technical training and managerial skills to improve process chemistry and unit operations by cycle time reduction, yield improvement, raw material usage, energy conservation and manpower productivity.
  • Assist in the management of the Mapleton plant by participating as a member of the Mapleton plant senior management team. Works together with AM, SCM, RD&I and ESH to introduce new products. Organizes the QC lab for testing of production and RD&I samples. Analyzes reasons for out of spec production and ensures corrective and preventive actions

Summary Compensation & Benefits:

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. (Specific rate to be determined, but not limited to, geographic location, education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data).

Pay Range: $123,500-$205,900
