Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for creation/approval of technical solutions including justification reports for repairs/reworks
  • Analyzes reported malfunctions of aircraft systems/structures and conducts trouble-shooting
  • Represents design offices and interfaces with manufacturing
  • Supports the FAL US from delivery of aircraft sections to ferry flight
  • Creates, validates and monitors corrective actions and modifications
  • Identifies and reports defects and ensures documentation

The A220 Family MAP Structures Design Engineer is a highly technical, operational role responsible for the development, justification, and engineering approval of design solutions related to aircraft primary and secondary structure non-conformities. Operating directly within the fast-paced environment of the Final Assembly Line (FAL), flight line, and delivery center, the jobholder acts as a critical functional interface on the shop floor between local manufacturing operations and the transnational Airbus Design Offices and Chief Engineering networks. The core mission of this role is to deliver immediate, high-quality, and structurally sound engineering design solutions to keep production moving without compromising aircraft safety or continued airworthiness. The scope of accountability covers metallic and composite airframe structures across all relevant ATA chapters, ensuring that shop floor deviations, damages, and concessions are permanently resolved or mitigated according to strict design principles. ***This position will be on 2nd shift upon completion of training.***

Your challenges
  • Responsible for creation/ approval / authorization (release) of technical solutions including justification reports for repairs / reworks and troubleshooting instructions and the identification, explanation, resolution and documentation of anomalies which will be delivered with the aircraft to the design office and the authorities (EASA, FAA or Transport Canada TC).
  • Involved in all aircraft systems and structure (metallic/composite)Analyzes all reported malfunctions of aircraft systems/structures and launches trouble-shooting activities.Represents all design offices, subcontractors and risk-sharing partners.Represents the Single Aisle Chief Engineer/Design Office and acts as interface between the design organization and the manufacturing organization. Creates, checks, approves & releases covering technical design solutions.
  • Supports the FAL US from the delivery of A/C sections, via FAL process, flight line activities and up to the ferry flight in all Aircraft related items including the presentation in front of the customer, if needed.
  • Responsible for the creation, validation, approval and monitoring of corrective actions (launch of new modifications, drawing updates, design query notes, improvements and avoidance of recurrent issues).
  • Responsible for the creation of temporary aircraft definitions (special instructions) in line with airworthiness requirements.
  • Identifies and reports on defects and deficiencies in work done by others.
  • Prepares progress reports.
  • Recommends changes in plans and specifications to suit special conditions.
  • Develops innovative engineering techniques.
Your boarding pass
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) or 10 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education.
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in aircraft structure (airframe) design engineering
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in implementing and using indication, alert and recording systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of engine, fuel, pneumatic, APU, hydraulic, cabin systems, advanced metallic/composite aerospace structure.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of configuration management rules.
  • Demonstrated success in identifying and solving problems.
  • Ability to function on the basis of self-motivation and self-direction.
  • Demonstrated willingness to work across traditional boundaries.
  • Knowledge of internal processes and procedures.
  • Able to use manuals ( Aircraft Wiring list, Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Illustrated Parts Catalog) for research and verification.
  • Non-conformities (NC's) are written by the production/quality departments or Flight Test Engineers, if they detect any deviations/damages during the assembly process, inspection or production flights. support
  • Eligible for employment in the US.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time overseas and domestically within the Airbus international network, supplier and customer sites.
