Job summary

BD in Sumter, SC is seeking a Manufacturing Unit Leader to own production, processes and people within the unit. You will drive SQDC results, eliminate losses, and grow team capability while ensuring compliance with BD quality systems and safety regulations.

Lead production staff, manage budgets/headcount, and set clear, measurable targets. Regularly coach, develop, and review performance to sustain operational excellence on the line.

Qualifications

• BA/BS Degree in Science, Industrial Management, Business, Engineering or related field.
• 5 years of manufacturing experience in a highly automated environment.
• 3 years of people leading experience.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for achieving key strategic, operational and functional goals.
• Developing and mentoring the manufacturing unit to drive results.
• Coordinates and drives activities within the manufacturing unit and sets priorities.
• Responsible for the unit budget and headcount levels.
• Sets SQDC goals and communicates targets for lines and areas.
• Drives changes to meet short and long-term SQDC goals.
• Resolves issues on the line, guiding with BD values.
• Runs the TMS cycle and sets 24-hour direction for the unit.
• Conducts yearly performance reviews and maintains development plans.
• Leads AM activities and builds AM work processes.
• Facilitates BD Excellence implementation.
• Collaborates with Logistics to schedule production and monitor delivery.
• Evaluates hourly associates through coaching.
• Tracks issues and involves HR when needed.
• Builds mastery in operations and BD Excellence.
• Spends over 50% on the production floor.

Job Description

The Manufacturing Unit Leader will have overall ownership of production, processes, and people included in the respective Manufacturing Unit and will be fully responsible to deliver upon SQDC targets, to eliminate losses in the area through BDPS and to grow the capability of the team. This role has responsibility for the designated product line including setting goals, making decisions, and driving accountability toward department objectives in the designated Manufacturing Unit. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

Job Responsibilities

• Accountable for the achievement of key strategic, operational and functional goals.

• Developing and mentoring the manufacturing unit to drive results by focusing on production, associate capability development and ownership.

• Coordinates and drives all activities within the manufacturing unit and sets priorities.

• Responsible for developing and managing the manufacturing unit’s budget and headcount levels.

• Coordinates the establishment and communication of challenging SQDC goals. Translates manufacturing unit targets into lines / areas / workplaces and ensures that each associate understands what is expected from them with documented individual, specific and measurable targets.

• Initiates and drives change to ensure that short and long term SQDC goals for the lines / areas under responsibility are being met.

• Resolves issues in the line and for the manufacturing unit in a timely manner, while displaying servant leadership. Manages the team in line with BD values.

• Runs the TMS cycle for the lines/areas and sets the 24-hour direction for the manufacturing unit;

• Does yearly performance reviews of the team and ensures every individual has an active development plan in place and does regular 1:1s with each team member to review performance and help them to grow.

• Leads AM activities being responsible for creating AM work processes (e.g., CIL, CL etc.)

• Facilitates BD excellence implementation within the manufacturing unit.

• Collaborate with Logistics to establish production schedules, monitor delivery performance versus schedule.

• Ensures regular, timely, and accurate assessments of hourly associates are delivered through coaching activities.

• Works with associates to resolve issues and concerns; involves HR when needed.

• Builds his/her own mastery in the operation, people management and BD Excellence.

• Spends more than 50% of the time on the production floor overseeing activities within the manufacturing unit.

• Other duties as required to support the needs of the business

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• BA/BS Degree (Science, Industrial management, Business, Engineering or a related field)

• 5 years of manufacturing experience in a highly automated environment required
