Brief Job Description
This position will require working in various Controlled/Non-Classified areas. The Packaging Technician performs a variety of manufacturing tasks, including operating equipment, in-process monitoring, line clearances, cosmetic inspection, cleaning, and batch record entries, and supports improvement activities such as 5S, problem-solving, Kaizen events, and manual data collection to achieve a prescribed level of purity, quality, and consistency in product and work output in accordance with cGMPs.
Operating on a 2-2-3 schedule with 12-hour shifts. Day shift 6:00 AM-6:30 PM.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate assigned machinery, including servicing machines, monitoring equipment status, reintroducing materials, manually palletizing finished materials, and ensuring smooth product flow.
- Start-up machinery, perform recipe selection and data entry on SCADA/HMI, make minor adjustments, and conduct critical sensor checks.
- Perform manual packaging tasks, including hand packaging and rework of in-process and finished material.
- Operate light material handling equipment (motorized/manual pallet jacks, non-motorized lifts) to safely move, store, or deliver material.
- Perform visual quality inspection and sampling of in-process materials and promptly escalated concerns to lead and process facilitator.
- Perform minor troubleshooting such as clearing jams and identifying equipment defects, and collaborate with technical resources to resolve equipment issues.
- Conduct inventory control and reconciliation activities using SAP and WES in a limited role.
- Carry out cleaning, housekeeping, and line clearance activities to maintain a cGMP environment, including assembling, disassembling, and sanitizing packaging equipment.
- Perform batch record entry, GMP documentation, and necessary mathematical calculations.
- Follow safety procedures and hazards (PPE, ergonomics, LOTO, human safety, material/chemical handling, spill controls) and report discrepancies.
- Work responsibly in accordance with SOPs, cGMPs, safety, and quality procedures.
- Support lean activities: perform 5S, participate in problem-solving, and track performance data for OEE and process improvement analysis.
- Serve as a certified OJT trainer; train and evaluate team members for training qualifications.
- Review process documents such as SOPs, forms, and batch records for accuracy, and provide improvement suggestions.
- Execute equipment qualification and process validation protocols.
- Be flexible and support other work areas within Manufacturing as needed.
- Maintain all required certifications and qualifications, and continuously learn new skills to contribute to the Process Execution Team.
- Work effectively in a team, adapt to changing/demanding environments; overtime may be required with minimal advance notice to support business needs.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience in a pharmaceutical or cGMP regulated environment.
- Must effectively understand, read, write, communicate, and follow instructions in English.
- Good attention to detail and the ability to keep accurate records and perform mathematical calculations.
Preferred Background
- High school graduate, vocational school graduate, or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications and SAP.
- Prior production experience.
- Experience in a LEAN manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of cGMPs and FDA policies/procedures.
