Job summary

Hyosung HICO Ltd in Memphis, TN is seeking a Manufacturing Technician to perform mechanical assembly, disassembly and installation tasks for power transformer production. The role involves loading and unloading, using hand and power tools, reading drawings and bills of materials, and ensuring parts meet exact specifications through inspection and testing.

You will follow standard work, assist in training new staff, and operate equipment such as cranes and hoists.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent, plus two years’ experience, or equivalent education, training and experience.
• Developed mechanical or technical skills.
• Experience using various hand and power tools.
• Must be able to read manufacturing drawings/specifications, prints or work instructions.
• Developed math and practical geometry skills.
• Basic computer skills with emphasis on MS Office products and understanding of computer applications.
• Knowledge and use of basic industrial measuring tools.
• Ability to safely and correctly use hand and power tools and measurement devices.
• Ability to work at elevated heights and climb stairs.
• Ability to inspect work.
• Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
• Ability to judge the quality of work produced compared to established standards, drawings, and instructions.
• Ability to operate powered equipment, such as fork truck and overhead crane.
• Ability to work in outdoor climate and normal indoor temperatures.
• Stand and walk minimum 6-8 hours per day.
• Ability to sit, squat, bend, stretch, twist, crawl, kneel, and reach above the shoulders as required to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload machinery and operate non-CNC equipment; glueing, clamping, painting and oil filling as examples.
• Assemble or disassemble parts; position, align and fasten units per specifications.
• Measure and adjust parts with calipers, micrometers and scales.
• Inspect, verify and document quality to meet exact specs and customer requirements.
• Connect, crimp, solder and braze internal leads and wiring per specs using pneumatic tools and torches.
• Read prints, BOMs and work instructions to determine component parts.
• Disassemble units to replace parts or prepare for shipping.
• Fabricate wooden parts, fixtures and packaging for delivery.
• Operate equipment for vacuuming, oil filling and safe recovery.

Job description

The Manufacturing Technician will perform mechanical assembly, disassembly and installation tasks associated with manufacturing power transformers.

SUMMARY

THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Perform manufacturing tasks such as loading and unloading of machinery and operation of non-CNC equipment, gluing and clamping machines, painting equipment, simple test and measurement equipment and oil filling equipment as examples.
• Assemble or disassemble parts or units; position, align, and fasten units to assemblies, subassemblies, or frames, using hand tools and power hand tools per product specifications or as directed.
• Measure and adjust parts using measuring instruments such as scales, calipers and micrometers.
• Inspect, verify, and document quality criteria during manufacturing to ensure that units meet exact specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements.
• Connect, crimp, solder and braze internal leads and product wiring according to specifications using electrical and mechanical equipment such as pneumatic tools and electric and gas torch brazing.
• Wrap, tape or insulate leads and wires according to work instructions.
• Perform electrical tests to confirm proper wiring and insulation per specification.
• Read prints, Bill of Materials, specifications and work instructions to determine proper component parts for processing, assembly and installation.
• Disassemble units to replace parts or to package units for shipping.
• Fabricate wooden parts, fixtures and packaging for delivery of units to customer.
• Operate proper equipment to perform vacuuming, oil filling, and recovery correctly and safely.
• Clean and lubricate parts and subassemblies as required.
• Safely move, handle and store materials without damaging items.
• Follow and adhere to standard work procedures, sequence of operations and consistently meet manufacturing standards for quality and productivity.
• Perform TPM tasks as directed for each job or area.
• Practice 6S and adhere to all safety rules, guidelines and safe working practices.
• Safely operate material handling and lifting equipment such as overhead cranes, forklifts, pallet jacks, motorized scissors lifts and work platforms as required.
• Assist in training of new employees including improving individual skills as well as assisting in the development of training materials.
• Actively assist in troubleshooting and implementation of corrective actions.
• Assist other manufacturing areas as needed.
• Support and assist the Manufacturing Supervisor or Manufacturing Manager as needed.
• Understand and work under the direction of the appropriate Hyosung HICO policy and/or procedure.
• Know Hyosung HICO’s Quality and Environmental Policies. Be able to fully discuss the importance of these policies and how they impact work.
