Job summary

nLIGHT, headquartered in Camas, WA, is seeking Manufacturing Technicians to sustain high-volume production of laser and semiconductor devices. You will troubleshoot processes, support production operations, and help drive continuous improvement across die, optics, and fiber-coupled assemblies.

The role involves rotating shifts (Sun–Tue, bi‑Wed 5A–5:15P; Thu–Sat, bi‑Wed 5A–5:15P) and requires a focus on safety, quality, and teamwork in a clean room environment.

Qualifications

  • 6 months MSIII or 1+ year in a high-volume electronics, semiconductor, or opto‑mechanical production environment.
  • Proven ability to learn company policies and perform routine tasks.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing technology and equipment.
  • Proficient use of common hand tools and measuring instruments.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and safety compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor automated production tools and equipment to ensure high quality, throughput, and utilization.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues; collect data and communicate status and solutions.
  • Assist in maintenance, calibrations, and continuous improvement activities to reduce downtime.
  • Collaborate with process engineering to implement improvements and document processes.
  • Train, support, and certify production team members; assist in prototyping and high‑volume line documentation.

Position Summary

Manufacturing Technicians sustain high-volume production, troubleshoot process and equipment issues, drive continuous improvement activities, and support Production operations. This role contributes to the manufacture of next-generation semiconductor diode lasers, optics, and fiber-coupled devices.

A Sunday-Tuesday bi-Wednesday 5A-5:15P

C Thursday-Saturday bi-Wednesday 5A-5:15P

Responsibilities
  • Reports to the Manufacturing Supervisor and monitors the operation of automated production tools and equipment, ensuring high quality, throughput, and utilization.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and process issues, performs routine data collection, and effectively communicates the status of tools and proposed solutions.
  • Helps define and execute routine process equipment maintenance and calibrations.
  • Collaborates with process engineering to manage specific processes and assists in defining and executing continuous process improvements focused on reducing PM or tool down durations, improving safety and ergonomics, and reducing tool interruptions.
  • Supports, trains, and certifies production team members.
  • Supports engineering in documenting processes in prototype and high-volume lines.
  • Leads by example in eliminating equipment issues from production’s critical path.
  • Drives continuous improvement opportunities using a wide variety of analytical techniques, such as SPC, DOE, and Gage R&R, as well as lean manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts.
  • Performs manufacturing builds and other production tasks as needed to meet production goals.
Qualifications
  • Requires a minimum of 6 months of experience as an MSIII or 1+ years of experience in a high-volume production environment working with electronics, semiconductor equipment, or opto-mechanical assemblies as a technician.
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire job skills and learn Company policies and procedures to complete routine tasks.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing technology and equipment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using common hand tools, including multimeters, and other tools required to perform the role.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills and ability to learn new tools and processes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to following safety procedures, quality standards, and clean room protocols in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to follow prescribed OCAP procedures for identified issues.
  • Ability to complete all assigned training courses.
  • Ability to perform work that is closely observed, controlled, and checked, with detailed guides and instructions provided.
  • Ability to perform simple, routine tasks and safely use tools and power equipment in the performance of duties.
  • Ability to read and work from sketches, blueprints, and schematics, and ability to work effectively as a team member while sharing skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas.
  • Ability to perform routine assignments requiring limited judgment and involving little or no role in decision-making.
  • Ability to receive detailed instructions on all work and operate under close supervision.
Working Conditions
  • This role requires working in a clean room environment and following applicable gowning, cleanliness, and contamination-control protocols.
  • Requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, and occasional squatting or kneeling over an 8+ hour shift.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying tasks are common, with most items weighing less than 5 lbs (some up to 35 lbs).
  • Fine motor skills and manual dexterity are essential for handling small parts and tools.
  • Employees use a variety of hand tools, soldering tools, laser tools, and custom-built equipment for assembly and testing.
  • Visual acuity (sharpness, depth perception, color differentiation, peripheral awareness) is required for inspection and assembly tasks.
  • Repetitive motions and fine manipulation with hands are fingers are frequent.
  • Stability and balance are needed to maneuver items between stations safely.

Starting pay depends on qualifications:

  • Manufacturing Technician I - $22.93 to $28.70 per hour
  • Manufacturing Technician II -$24.45 to $31.80 per hour
Other Compensation and Benefits
  • Shift differentials are paid at the rate of 10% for hours worked between 5:30PM and 12:00AM and at 15% for hours worked between 12:00AM and 5:30AM
  • Target Cash Bonus with potential payout of up to 2% of earned wages
  • 120 hours of paid Vacation per year, plus paid Sick Leave and 10 paid Holidays
