Job Summary
Northrop Grumman is seeking a Manufacturing Technician 2 to support the Spacecraft Components organization in Goleta, CA. The position focuses on fabrication, mechanical assembly, prototype testing, rework, quality testing, and manufacturing process support for spacecraft components and assemblies.
Primary Responsibilities
- Fabricate and assemble mechanical components, subassemblies, and larger assemblies.
- Set up and test prototype units and subassemblies under operational conditions.
- Perform manufacturing, rework, calibration, and quality-testing activities.
- Work with engineers on manufacturing setup, testing, experiments, and process improvements.
- Collect and evaluate operating data and make appropriate process or equipment adjustments.
- Assist in developing methods and procedures to control or modify manufacturing processes.
- Handle and manage fragile composite materials.
- Maintain adhesive usage, traceability, pot-life, and out-time records.
- Read and interpret manufacturing/engineering drawings and shop planning.
- Report production and test data and interface with other departments.
- Maintain shop cleanliness, safety, and organization.
Basic Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- High school diploma/GED plus at least 2 years of additional education and/or related experience.
- Demonstrated mechanical ability.
- Ability to read and follow engineering drawings, schematics, and written instructions.
- Familiarity with hand tools and proper tool-safety techniques.
- Understanding of basic torque concepts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods.
- Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and different shifts as required.
- Strong initiative, adaptability, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in composites or aerospace manufacturing.
- Spacecraft, satellite, or other advanced manufacturing experience.
- Experience using DC power supplies, digital multimeters, and source meters.
- Knowledge of basic shop arithmetic.
- Familiarity with ISO requirements, standards, and compliance.
- Experience with cranes, rigging, forklifts, or similar manufacturing equipment.
- J-Standard soldering certification.
