Position: Bake Department Technician
Location: Hickman, KY
Shift: 7:00pm-7:00am (2-on, 2-off, 3-on schedule; may vary based on operational needs)

Position Summary
As a Technician in the Bake Department, you will support the operation of our ring furnace, where large carbon electrodes are baked at high temperatures to achieve the strength and quality Tokai Carbon is known for. You will work in a hands‑on, 24/7/365 industrial environment that demands safety, teamwork, and attention to detail.
Essential Functions
- Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other mobile equipment to load, move, and position material around the ring furnace.
- Assist with furnace pit operations, including covering/uncovering pits, placing/stacking material, and monitoring bake progress.
- Perform general housekeeping to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Inspect equipment and perform basic mechanical tasks to keep tools and machinery in safe working condition.
- Follow all safety procedures related to heat exposure, confined spaces, mobile equipment, and carbon materials.
- Recognize and troubleshoot routine operational issues and communicate concerns promptly. Complete required documentation and maintain accurate production records.
- Adapt to changing priorities and work environments.
- Work in conditions that may be hot (especially during summer), dusty or dirty due to carbon materials and furnace operations. Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather, and loud mechanical parts is regular.
- Work nights, weekends, and overtime as required to support production needs.
Requirements
- Experience in a manufacturing role that uses hand or power tools; experience in mechanical, electrical, automotive repairs, construction, carpentry, or similar environments is considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Experience working in heavy industrial environments, hot‑work areas, or furnace operations.
- Basic computer skills.

- Ability to work well with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and understand basic instructions, safety information, and work orders.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly in all forms.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and move or maneuver up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work comfortably at different heights.
- Must be able to work overtime as required.
- Must be willing to cross‑train and flex back into areas where competency has been demonstrated.
