Job summary

Mitsubishi Power is hiring a Manufacturing Systems Engineer for the Savannah Machinery Works site to design, integrate, and optimize automation hardware across manufacturing lines. You will work with PLCs, HMIs, sensors, robotics, safety systems, and MDC/DNC data flows to support reliable production of gas turbine components.

The role collaborates with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and IT/OT to establish standards and scalable solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, PLCs, robotics, CNC/machine tool integration, and industrial networks.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments, preferably supporting gas turbine, aerospace, power generation, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of machine connectivity, MES, and production support equipment is preferred.
  • Experience with facility start-ups, automated manufacturing cells, factory commissioning, or capital equipment projects is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to automation, controls, robotics, machine integration, and industrial networks.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, control logic, and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, specify, and support automation hardware including PLCs, HMIs, controllers, sensors, actuators, robotics, gantry systems, machine interfaces, safety circuits, panels, and networks.
  • Develop hardware standards, control panel specifications, user requirements specifications, wiring expectations, installation packages, and commissioning documentation.
  • Support the integration of machine tools, conventional and non‑conventional equipment, inspection assets, gantries, robotics, and production support systems.
  • Define and support MDC/DNC requirements for machine and program data, including Windchill data retrieval.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Quality, IT/OT, suppliers, and machine builders to ensure reliable automation solutions.
  • Support FAT/SAT activities, installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of automation hardware.
  • Ensure designs consider safety, maintainability, spare parts strategy, electrical standards, documentation control, and configuration management.

Role Overview

Mitsubishi Power is hiring a Manufacturing Systems Engineer for the Savannah Machinery Works location. The Manufacturing Systems Engineeris responsible for the design, specification, integration, commissioning, and continuous improvement of industrial automation hardware used in the manufacture and repair of gas turbine components at OSC Manufacturing. This role focuses on the physical automation layer, including PLCs, controllers, sensors, robotics, gantry systems, machine interfaces, safety systems, panels, networks, MDC/DNC integration, and hardware required to reliably transfer machine and program data from controlled online sources such as Windchill. The position works with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, Maintenance, IT/OT, and external suppliers to create standards, technical specifications, and user requirements specifications that support safe, robust, maintainable, and scalable automation solutions across conventional and non-conventional manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, specify, and support industrial automation hardware including PLCs, HMIs, controllers, sensors, actuators, robotics, gantry systems, machine interfaces, safety circuits, panels, and industrial networks.
  • Develop hardware standards, control panel specifications, technical specifications, user requirements specifications, wiring expectations, installation packages, and commissioning documentation.
  • Support the integration of machine tools, conventional and non-conventional equipment, inspection assets, gantries, robotics, and production support systems.
  • Define and support MDC/DNC requirements for machine and program data, including controlled program retrieval from online approved locations such as Windchill where practical.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Quality, IT/OT, suppliers, and machine builders to ensure reliable, maintainable, and scalable automation hardware solutions.
  • Support FAT/SAT activities, installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, failure analysis, and continuous improvement of automation hardware.
  • Ensure designs consider safety, maintainability, spare parts strategy, electrical standards, documentation control, configuration management, and future expandability.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting industrial automation, PLCs, control systems, robotics, CNC/machine tool integration, manufacturing equipment, and industrial networks.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments, preferably supporting gas turbine, aerospace, power generation, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of machine connectivity, automation systems, manufacturing execution systems (MES), and production support equipment is preferred.
  • Experience with facility start-ups, automated manufacturing cells, factory commissioning, or capital equipment projects is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to automation, controls, robotics, machine integration, and industrial networks.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, control logic, technical documentation, and industry standards.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including technical reporting and presentations.
  • Ability to analyze technical data, perform required calculations, and make sound decisions based on engineering requirements.
  • Proficient with PLC programming software, HMI/SCADA platforms, industrial networking tools, AutoCAD Electrical (or equivalent), Microsoft Office, and manufacturing systems such as SAP, Windchill, Ignition, and MDC/DNC platforms.
  • Familiarity with SQL, Power BI, industrial communication protocols, System 3R/Erowa automation, CNC, EDM, laser processing, welding, inspection systems, and robotic/gantry automation is preferred.
  • Travel up to 50% to support suppliers, equipment providers, manufacturing facilities, and parent company locations.
