Job summary

Lonza Vacaville is seeking a shift leader to manage site manufacturing operations in a fully onsite role. You will lead a team, ensure cGMP compliance, and drive Lean initiatives to improve efficiency, quality, and safety in a high-stakes biopharmaceutical setting.

The position requires AS/BS/BA in relevant fields and 5–6 years of supervisory biotech experience, with a proven track record of successful inspections and continuous improvement. Competitive salary and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • AS/BS/BA in Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, or Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 5-6 years supervisory experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven track record of safe, compliant operations in a large-scale cGMP manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading cGMP-compliant operations through health authority inspections; aseptic/bioprocessing background preferred.
  • Driven by Lean and continuous improvement methods to boost quality and productivity.
  • Ability to lead and develop an operational staff in a dynamic setting.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for shift performance including budget management, productivity, labor efficiency, and achieving goals.
  • Ensure cGMP compliance and inspection readiness at all times; support inspections.
  • Produce high-quality products per Health Authority regulations and Lonza quality systems.
  • Drive Lean and other continuous improvement initiatives for efficiency and quality.
  • Lead, train, and develop manufacturing staff for qualification and accountability.
  • Oversee equipment, facilities, and validated processes; coordinate maintenance and improvements.
  • Manage deviations, investigations, validation strategies, and technical transfers with sustainable CAPAs.

Job description

This is a fully site based role. Working together in person supports close, real time collaboration and the technical precision needed to manufacture medicines to the highest quality and safety standards.

Shift leader will foster an environment founded on trust, accountability, and mutual respect and will provide active, visible leadership to maintain and enhance the company's position as a best-in-class, bio-pharmaceutical manufacturer.

The full-time base annual salary for this position is expected to range between $95,250 to $158,750.

Shift hours: 6:30pm-7:30am; Wednesday-Friday and every other Saturday
What you will do
  • Accountable for manufacturing shift performance, including budget management, productivity, labor efficiency, and achievement of operational goals.
  • Ensure cGMP compliance and inspection readiness for site at all times. Actively support inspection activities.
  • Ensure production of high-quality products in accordance with Health Authority regulations and Lonza quality systems.
  • Drive Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and operational performance.
  • Lead, train, and develop manufacturing staff to ensure qualification, accountability, and high team performance.
  • Oversee manufacturing equipment, facilities, and validated processes, coordinating maintenance and technical improvements as needed.
  • Manage deviations, investigations, validation strategies, and technical transfers while implementing sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
What we are looking for

AS/BS/BA in Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, or Engineering preferred.

Minimum 5-6 years of supervisory experience in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or related industry preferred.

Proven track record of ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operations in a large-scale cGMP manufacturing environment.

Proven success in leading cGMP-compliant operations through health authority inspections, with a background in aseptic and bioprocessing technologies preferred.

Shown ability to drive quality and productivity improvements through the use of Lean and other continuous improvement methods.

Ability to lead/guide/develop an operational staff team to achieve beneficial results in a dynamic environment.
