Job summary

Ingersoll Rand in Connersville, Indiana is seeking a Manufacturing Specialist to design, implement and review the procedures, processes, and equipment involved in manufacturing. You will focus on lean improvements while maintaining safety and quality to meet production demands.

You will evaluate quality control processes, plan workflow and equipment layouts, and develop cost estimates for new programs, leading in process documentation and standardization across operations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Minimum of 2+ years in a manufacturing engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years knowledge of CNC programming.
  • 2nd shift start time by 3:00 pm or earlier.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate quality control processes and recommend improvements.
  • Plan workflow, equipment placement and space to improve efficiency.
  • Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods.
  • Maintain equipment by coordinating maintenance and repair services.
  • Develop process documentation, including SOPs and PFMEAs.
  • Lead tryouts and evaluation of new machinery and tooling.
  • Develop cost estimates for new programs and major projects.
  • Apply statistical qualification and document methods for tasks.
  • Standardize processes; implement ideas to improve safety, quality, cost, and productivity.
  • Provide technical direction; source and install new equipment and processes.
  • Initiate cost-savings ideas and projects through lean engineering.
  • Train personnel on new equipment and processes; assist in debugging.
  • Support new program launches and monitor daily quality/productivity.

Job Overview

Manufacturing Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing and reviewing the procedures, processes, and equipment involved in the manufacturing process. Their duties include researching automation techniques, testing new systems for efficiency, and planning factory layouts to optimize production. Focus on lean improvements in meeting production demands, while maintaining safety and quality.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate quality control processes and make recommendations for improvements in quality control.
  • Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods.
  • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services.
  • Development of process documentation, including SOP’s, process routings, PFMEAs, process flow diagrams, and error proofing plans.
  • Lead the tryout and evaluation of new machinery, tooling, and equipment.
  • Development of cost estimates for new and major programs, often working from early concept cross sections, concept drawings, concurrent engineering discussions, and evolving assumptions.
  • Experience with statistical qualification of machinery, equipment, and gages, and the ability to improve and document our methods for completing these tasks.
  • Develop and standardize processes and parameters; implement new ideas to improve safety, quality, cost and productivity, including PSO and launch.
  • Provide technical direction; specify, quote, source, purchase and lead in the installation of new equipment and processes.
  • Initiate cost-savings ideas and projects through efficient engineering practices.
  • Train manufacturing personnel as necessary on the use and maintenance of new equipment and processes; assist in the de‑bugging of new equipment and troubleshoot problems with existing equipment; interact with team members to optimize processes and improve workstation design.
  • Support new program launches; monitor daily quality and productivity results and react to problems as they occur.
  • Ability to assess safety, quality, and delivery problems on the shop floor and implement solutions.
  • Support lean scheduling project which focuses on lean line design, standard work, Kanban, and material delivery.
  • Plan and implement manufacturing cost‑reduction opportunities
Requirements
  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of 2+ years' experience in a manufacturing engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years knowledge of CNC programming.
  • 2nd shift (start no later than 3:00 pm)

  • Takes initiative. Ability to lead and work independently.
  • Strong safety, quality, and teamwork orientation with track record of dependability.
  • Computer literate with experience of Microsoft office.
  • Willing to work all shifts including nightshift as needed.
Preferences
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Relevant technological knowledge.
  • Fluent in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Fluent in lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Experience with lean principles such as lean line design and Kanban pull systems.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment with machining, and assembly
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering discipline or combination of education and experience.
Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements
  • This position will be based in Connersville, Indiana with minimal travel required.
