Job summary

The Chemours Company is seeking a Chemical Engineer to join our Manufacturing Technology team at the Corpus Christi Plant located in Ingleside, Texas. The role provides overall process engineering guidance and support for Operations, Maintenance, and Technology teams in a hazardous process environment.

You will troubleshoot daily operations, drive improvements, participate in safety and reliability investigations, and support capital projects from basic data to commissioning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic chemical engineering principles.
  • Ability to diagnose and solve technical problems with data-based decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong customer focus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering and troubleshooting assistance to unit processes to maintain safety, operability, quality and cost.
  • Monitor processes using UPTIME Software and SPC to identify improvements.
  • Lead Safety, Reliability and Quality investigations for continuous improvement.
  • Support cost and capital projects including FEL activities and commissioning of new/modified facilities.
  • Lead Process Hazard Analyses and perform process tests to improve safety and cost.

Chemours is seeking a Chemical Engineer to join our growing Manufacturing Technology team. This position will be available at the Corpus Christi Plant located in Ingleside, Texas and report directly to the Manufacturing Technology Manager. The Chemours Corpus Christi site is part of the Thermal & Specialized Solutions Business and focuses on the production of a variety of refrigerant gases. The site is a multi-unit manufacturing site with several existing well-established product lines as well as a recently built Low GWP production line aligning with growing market demand. The manufacturing technology group at this facility encompasses over 20 professionals of various specialties (ChEs, MEs and EEs). This role will serve as a Support Engineer for one or more areas of the Chemours Assets at this facility. The individual will provide overall Process Engineering guidance and support for the Operations, Maintenance, and Technology Teams for their area(s). This role will involve day-to-day troubleshooting in the plant, as well as support for improvement programs in the areas of Safety (PSM), UPTIME, reliability, cost, new capital installations, etc. The operating units are highly hazardous processes (OSHA PSM Covered Processes).

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • To provide engineering and troubleshooting assistance to the site’s unit processes, including all synthesis, refining, storage, and shipping operations to maintain and improve the safety, operability, quality, and cost.
  • Monitor the process on an on-going basis to look for positive and negative shifts in the process, to identify improvement opportunities. Uptime Software, Aspen Process Explorer software and statistical process control would routinely be used to do this.
  • Leads and participates in Safety, Reliability and Quality Investigations to identify and implement actions to drive continuous improvement.
  • Provides support for both cost and capital projects to improve the safety, quality, environment, and/or cost of the production unit. This includes generating Basic Data, providing economic justification, participation in FEL activities and coordinating installation and commissioning of new/modified facilities.
  • Participate in and lead Process Hazards Analyses per the schedule set out for the assigned process.
  • Perform tests on the process to improve the safety, quality, environment, and/or cost of the production unit.
  • Maintain level of technical expertise in key technologies via training, seminars, and professional organizations.
  • Provide shift/weekend coverage as needed for start-ups, tests, maintenance Turnarounds, operator training, or other non-routine needs.
  • Travel requirements are <10%.
The following is required for this role:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic chemical engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated skill to diagnose and solve technical problems – making data-based decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills with strong customer focus and ability to conceptualize customer needs based on customer input.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate through all levels of an organization.
  • High degree of initiative and flexibility to move projects forward safely and in a timely manner.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage short duration deadlines, emergency situations, and multiple priorities.
  • Willing and able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as steel toes, hard hat, Nomex, eye protection, respirators, etc.
  • Proficient in the use of computers, Microsoft applications, Teams and related systems.
  • Able to promote peer development, cross-training, and collaboration.
The following is preferred for this role:
  • 2+ years of experience in related manufacturing industry or Military Equivalent Experience.
  • Prior experience working with field personnel in operations troubleshooting activities.
  • Strong background in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
  • Strong Process Safety Management (PSM) and Hazard analysis background.
  • Experience applying Lean methodologies to maintenance processes and supporting the implementation of business systems.
