Job summary

IS International Services is seeking a Contract Manufacturing Quality Inspector to serve as the on-site quality representative at assigned CM and supplier facilities.

The role monitors manufacturing quality, performs risk-based inspections, documents nonconformances, supports corrective actions, and escalates conditions that could affect safety, compliance, product performance, delivery, or customer requirements.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical certification in quality, manufacturing, or a related field.
• 5–10 years of experience in quality inspection or related industrial environments.
• Experience documenting nonconformances and verifying corrective actions.
• Background in contract manufacturing or electrical-mechanical equipment preferred.
• BESS experience preferred.

Job description

The Contract Manufacturing Quality Inspector serves as the on-site quality representative at assigned Contract Manufacturer (CM) and supplier facilities. The role monitors manufacturing quality, performs risk-based inspections, identifies and documents nonconformances, supports corrective actions, and escalates conditions that could affect safety, compliance, product performance, delivery, or customer requirements.

The inspector works with Quality, Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, and supplier personnel to prevent quality escapes and support compliant production and shipment readiness.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manufacturing Quality Oversight

• Maintain an active quality presence on the manufacturing floor during assigned production activities.
• Perform risk-based in-process, final, and pre-shipment inspections using approved requirements and checklists.
• Verify product and process compliance with drawings, specifications, work instructions, inspection plans, and acceptance criteria.
• Support NPI, production ramp, first-article, production break-in, and customer-specific build activities.

Quality Risk and Change Control

• Identify, contain, document, and escape defects, process concerns, and potential escape conditions.
• Create or support NCRs and verify completion of approved corrective actions.
• Verify implementation of approved engineering changes, deviations, temporary work instructions, and process changes.
• Monitor recurring issues and emerging risks and communicate them promptly to the Quality Manager.

Documentation and Shipment Readiness

• Maintain accurate inspection records, photographs, serial-number traceability, NCR references, and supporting evidence in approved systems.
• Confirm required inspections, quality records, NCR and deviation reviews, and per-enclosure sign-offs are complete before shipment.
• Document shipment objections and follow the established escalation and release process.
• Provide routine status updates on inspections, open issues, containment, corrective actions, and shipment risk.

QUALITY CONTROL STOP LIGHT EXPECTATIONS

Apply Quality Control Stop Light Process based on risk, containment effectiveness, extent of condition, and potential impact.

The inspector may initiate immediate, limited containment or a stop for a potentially serious condition. Safety-related stop-work authority is immediate. Final disposition, continuation of a non-safety production hold, and release of Red or Hold product require documented approval from the authorized functions.

DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY

• Conduct inspections and document quality findings.
• Initiate the Stop Light Process and request or begin immediate containment within the affected boundary.
• Escalate significant quality, safety, regulatory, functional, or shipment concerns.
• Place affected product or material in a controlled Hold status in accordance with established procedures.
• Do not independently approve engineering dispositions, contractual deviations, major process changes, extended production holds, or final release of Red or Hold product.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education and Experience

• Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent practical experience in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
• 5-10 years of experience in quality inspection, manufacturing, supplier quality, energy, construction, or a related industrial environment preferred.
• Experience performing inspections, interpreting technical requirements, documenting nonconformances, and verifying corrective actions.
• Contract manufacturing, electrical-mechanical equipment, or BESS experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, bills of material, work instructions, inspection plans, and approved deviations.
• Working knowledge of inspection methods, NCR and corrective-action processes, traceability, and controlled documentation.
• Ability to record clear, factual, and objective evidence using approved quality systems.
• Strong attention to detail, judgment, communication, organization, and follow-through.
• Ability to work independently on-site and comply with facility safety, PPE, security, confidentiality, and scheduling requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality documentation systems; Salesforce NCR and Procore experience preferred.
