Come break through with us.

The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

Role Purpose

Turn Requirements into Capability. Turn Capability into Confidence. The Manufacturing Quality Engineer develops, deploys, qualifies, and improves manufacturing quality systems, process controls, and operational disciplines across Advanced Optics. Working closely with division functions and site departments, this role applies PPAP, PCPD, measurement system analysis, capability evaluation, risk management, and structured problem-solving to translate customer, product, and process requirements into capable, controlled, and sustainable manufacturing processes. The role spans new product introductions, pilot-line deployments, technology transfers, major process changes, capacity expansions, and ongoing process improvements — ensuring quality is built into the process, variation is reduced at the source, and manufacturing confidence is earned through demonstrated readiness and control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with division functions and site departments to translate customer, product, and process requirements into practical manufacturing controls and qualification plans.
  • Lead PPAP, process qualification, validation, and production-readiness activities for new products, pilot lines, equipment qualifications, technology transfers, capacity expansions, and major process changes.
  • Develop and maintain process flows, CTQ characteristics, PFMEAs, Control Plans, reaction plans, qualification plans, and readiness evidence.
  • Lead Measurement System Analysis (MSA), process capability studies, and data analysis to verify that requirements, controls, and validations are effective.
  • Develop, implement, and improve PCPD elements — including documentation, standard operating setpoints, training, change control, experiment planning, measurement and calibration controls, audits, and process reviews.
  • Identify qualification and control gaps, align cross-functional ownership, and drive issues to evidence-based closure — ensuring decisions, risks, exceptions, and required follow-up actions are clearly documented and communicated.
  • Confirm that controls and improvements are sustained and applied consistently across applicable products, processes, lines, and sites.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing quality, process engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Experience supporting new product introduction, pilot or production-line startup, process scale-up, equipment qualification, technology transfer, or major process change.
  • Demonstrated experience applying PPAP or comparable structured qualification methods to new or existing manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of PCPD, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, process capability, validation, risk assessment, and production-readiness methods.
  • Experience developing or improving manufacturing quality systems using continuous improvement tools — including documentation, change control, measurement and calibration, training, and process review.
  • Proficiency using data, statistical analysis, and structured problem-solving methods (8D, DMAIC, root cause analysis, Lean, Six Sigma) along with analytical tools such as Excel, Power BI, JMP, Minitab, or Microsoft Copilot.
  • Strong analytical, facilitation, and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build cross-functional alignment, influence without authority, and deliver sustainable results.
