Duties include performing visual and dimensional inspections, documenting nonconformances, and supporting corrective actions and process improvements to reduce defects and improve overall product quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Overall

  • Ensure the safety of the organization through education, training, and enforcement of established safety protocols and safe equipment usage
  • Become proficient and effectively utilize the company Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure manufactured parts are inspected and confirmed to conform prior to release to inventory, shipping, or the next operation

Manufacturing / Production

  • Actively utilize the QMS/inspection process to verify parts meet drawings, specifications, and company requirements (including critical-to-quality characteristics)
  • Thoroughly understand applicable documentation for each part (drawings, tolerances/GD&T where applicable, material requirements, and inspection plans)
  • Maintain a full understanding of (and ability to set up) the tooling required for punch and bend presses, drill stations, choppers, specialized machinery, hand tools, and other equipment used to produce high-quality boat trailer parts
  • Review manufacturing work orders and compare completed parts for consistency to specifications, revision levels, and required operations
  • Communicate and instruct employees by giving concise instructions on production needs, including machine operation set up and safety, inventory paperwork, proper stacking/handling of parts, and quality safeguards
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of parts for defects or nonconformance to specifications, direct/coordinate correction or segregation, and accurately document findings (e.g., inspection records, nonconformance reports) for review by management and production
  • Plan, perform, and document incoming, in-process, and final inspection/testing of manufactured parts to confirm conformance (including use of measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges/CMM where applicable), sampling requirements, and coordination of gage calibration/verification
  • Interpret, implement, and comply with company quality standards, drawings/specifications, and applicable inspection requirements
  • Maintain and document inspection results and nonconformances through records and tracking systems, including root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions as required
  • Communicate with management, engineering, and production personnel when quality issues are discovered and coordinate containment actions
  • Develop or update inspection procedures and nonconformance/complaint processes to ensure proper capture, investigation, and documentation
  • Investigate and diagnose quality issues (internal, supplier, or customer), trace lots/serials as applicable, and recommend corrective actions to improve processes and practices

Training and Development

  • Train production team members on workmanship standards, part requirements, and basic inspection/measurement techniques as applicable
  • Provide daily feedback to production on defects identified and corrected to improve first-pass yield and reduce rework/scrap
  • Work with production leadership to streamline manufacturing processes and strengthen “quality at the source” controls

Reporting/Managing

  • Report quality variances and trends to Quality and Production leadership to drive corrective action and continual improvement
  • Participate, when required, in meetings with customers and/or suppliers to discuss quality concerns, containment, and improvement actions
Qualifications
  • Support and demonstrate the company’s Mission, Vision, and Values
  • Maintain a positive and respectful work environment when interacting with customers, coworkers, and management
  • Apply Lean principles and contribute to continuous improvement efforts
  • Follow all safety regulations and maintain clean, orderly work areas
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or higher preferred
  • 2–5 years of quality, manufacturing, or inspection-related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret part drawings/specifications (including tolerances and GD&T where applicable)
  • Proficiency in quality assurance and inspection methods, including reading blueprints and tape measures and operating protractors, micrometers, calipers, and other measuring devices (CMM experience a plus where used)
  • Computer proficiency required, including Microsoft Office; experience with QMS/ERP systems preferred
Language Skills
