Job summary

Divergent is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Process & Equipment Engineer to transition Laser Powder Bed Fusion production equipment from development into high-volume manufacturing.

You will work at the intersection of equipment engineering, manufacturing, quality, reliability, and operations, applying independent judgment to solve complex problems and improve standard work with input from your manager and senior engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 4–6 years in manufacturing/ equipment/ reliability engineering.
  • Experience launching or ramping production equipment or processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, and controls.
  • Experience with RCCA methods (5 Whys, Fishbone).

Responsibilities

  • Support the transition of newly developed production equipment from qualification into sustained manufacturing.
  • Drive improvements in equipment reliability, throughput, yield, and OEE on assigned machines.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, controls, and process-related issues affecting production, adapting established methods to new problems.
  • Provide production feedback to design engineering on machine performance and reliability.
  • Support technical investigations and RCCA for equipment failures.

Purpose

Join our mission to redefine aerospace and automotive manufacturing through advanced Additive Manufacturing. We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Process & Equipment Engineer to help transition next-generation Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) production equipment from development into high-volume manufacturing.

This rolehelps ensureour production equipment is stable, reliable, scalable, and capable of delivering world-class safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance. As our manufacturing footprint expands across multiple factories, you will solveequipmentproblemsat the machine levelandhelptransform those solutions into engineering standards deployed across the entire fleet.

Success in this role requiresstrongtroubleshooting skills,independent technicaljudgment, and thedrivetogrow into broader fleet-level ownership. You will work alongside seniorequipmentengineers to stabilize new machines, improve reliability, andbuildthestandards that carry the fleet as it scales.

The Role

As a Manufacturing Process & Equipment Engineer (known internally asAdditive Manufacturing Equipment Engineer II), you will take technical responsibility for assigned production equipment after engineering qualification. You will work at the intersection of equipment engineering, manufacturing, quality, reliability, and operations , applying independent judgment to solve complex problems and improving standard work with input from your manager and senior engineers.

You will:

  • Supportthe transition of newly developed production equipment from qualification into sustained manufacturing.
  • Driveimprovements in equipment reliability, throughput, yield, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) on assigned machines.
  • Troubleshootmechanical, electrical, controls, and process-related issues affecting production, adapting established methods tonew problems.
  • Apply and improveengineering standards thatensureconsistency acrossproductionassets.
  • Provide production feedback todesign engineeringonmachineperformance and reliability.
  • Supporttechnical investigations and Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCA) forequipment failures.
  • Contribute tocost reduction through equipment optimizationandprocess improvements.
  • Support capital equipmentinstallation, commissioning, and production readinessactivities.
  • Act as a technical resource for operators, technicians, and peers.

Equipment Performance &MachineOwnership

  • Taketechnicalresponsibilityforassignedproduction L-PBF equipment following Operational Qualification (OQ).
  • Trackperformanceagainst establishedbaselines andimprove machine capability across safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Execute standardizedequipment configurationsand flag deviationsbetween machines and factories.

Troubleshooting & Reliability Engineering

  • Troubleshootequipment issues involving mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and process interactions.
  • Performroot cause investigations using structured engineering methodologies.
  • Implementcorrective actions thateliminaterecurring failures.
  • Improvepreventativemaintenanceproceduresbased on equipment performance, with manager input.

Process & Manufacturing Optimization

  • Improve L-PBF equipment capability to increase throughput, yield, dimensional accuracy, and repeatability.
  • Implementengineering solutions that increase machineutilizationand operational efficiency.
  • Supportqualification and validation activities for new equipment, process changes, and manufacturing improvements.

Engineering Collaboration & Equipment Development

  • Provide structured production feedbackto equipment design teams onmachineperformance, serviceability, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with controls, software, mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to resolve technical challenges.
  • Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Reliability (DFR) initiatives.

Fleet Standards & Technical Documentation

  • Developand improve standard work, maintenanceprocedures, andcalibrationdocumentation with manager input.
  • Supportconfiguration management and engineering change implementation across the production fleet.
  • Documentlessons learnedso they can beinstitutionalized into future machine deployments.

Quality & Compliance

  • Support qualification of additive manufacturing equipment and processes to aerospace and automotive quality requirements.
  • SupportQuality Engineering during audits, customer reviews, and process validation activities.
  • Analyze manufacturing defects and equipment-related quality issuesandimplementengineering solutions.
  • FollowAS9100, AMS, PPAP, and internal qualitysystem requirements.

Capital Equipment & Factory Expansion

  • Execute assigned scopes withincapital equipment projects supporting factory growth.
  • Supportfactory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and production rampactivities.
  • Contribute totechnical readiness plans ensuring new equipment achieves production targets rapidly.
Basic Qualifications
  • Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
  • 4–6years of experience in manufacturing engineering, equipment engineering, reliability engineering, or advanced production environments.
  • Experience supporting the launch or ramp of productionequipmentor processes.
  • Strong troubleshootingskillsacross mechanical, electrical,and/orcontrolssystems.
  • Experiencewithstructuredroot cause analysismethodologies(e.g., RCCA, 5 Whys, Fishbone).
  • Abilityto workcross-functionally withengineering, operations, quality, and maintenanceteams.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) or other metal additive manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience in aerospace, automotive, semiconductor, or other high-volume precision manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of AS9100, AMS, PPAP, APQP, or equivalent quality systems.
  • Exposure toequipment reliability engineering, OEE improvement,or preventativemaintenanceprograms.
  • Experience working with machine sensor data or manufacturing analytics.
  • Experience with controls systems, PLCs, industrial automation,or machine integration.
Compensation

At Divergent, our pay range is based on the level of the job. For this role, we will consider candidates at levels E04 - E05 as evaluated through our interview process.

Pay Range

$111,300 - $176,720 USD
