Job summary

Pratt & Whitney is seeking individuals for a 2nd shift role at our Wells, ME site. The position involves learning to set up and operate NC milling, grinding machines and related equipment, with training on operation sheets and quality checks.

You’ll progress through TPM and work with engineers to resolve machinist challenges. The role emphasizes reading, writing and speaking English, with 0-1 years in related trades preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • 0-1 years of manufacturing, automotive or related trade experience preferred.
  • Ability to make computations involving decimals and fractions.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to set up and operate NC milling/grinding machines, vertical turret lathes or VTC’s to perform routine production operations on a variety of weldments and assemblies.
  • Learn to work from operation sheets, part travelers, BORops, and oral instruction to set up equipment for grinding, turning, facing, boring and/or chamfering operations involving a limited number of surfaces to be machined.
  • Learn to verify conformance of finished work to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Obtain operator Certification to be able to accept/reject parts.
  • Learn to maintain machines by performing required total preventive maintenance (TPM).
  • Learn to work collaboratively with engineers, quality assurance, programmers and other production personnel to resolve machining problems.

What You Will Do

This is a 2nd Shift Opportunity. This is Monday - Thursday ( 4 -10 hour shifts) 3:30pm-1:30am




  • Learn to set up and operate NC milling/grinding machines, vertical turret lathes or VTC’s to perform routine production operations on a variety of similar weldments and assemblies.

What is my role type?

Onsite

Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.



Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.



Hybrid

Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.



Remote

Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). If you live within a reasonable commute of an RTX site with other colleagues you interact with, your manager will discuss whether there is a degree of onsite presence associated with this role.
