Job summary

National Gypsum Company is offering a paid summer Manufacturing Intern position for May 2027 in Charlotte, NC area operations. The program provides hands‑on experience across production, quality control, process improvement, and safety protocols within a dynamic plant environment.

Qualified students are enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Engineering, Business, or Manufacturing, with coursework in manufacturing processes and operations management.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in an Engineering, Business, or a Manufacturing related field.
• Strong academic background with coursework in manufacturing processes, operations management, or related disciplines.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and hourly associates and adapt to fast‑paced manufacturing operations.
• Detail‑oriented with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Travel may be required up to 10% per internship period.
• Hybrid work ineligible.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day manufacturing operations under the guidance of experienced professionals.
• Participate in production and manufacturing activities to gain practical experience.
• Work with safety, quality, and production on concerns and/or opportunities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying inefficiencies and suggesting process enhancements.
• Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for all associates.
• Document and analyze data related to production and quality metrics, efficiency, and performance.
• Engage in training sessions and workshops to expand knowledge of manufacturing processes, technologies, team growth, and leadership skills.
• Shadow and learn problem‑solving methods from various management roles or departments, including Production, Quality, Maintenance or Engineering, Environmental & Safety, or Human Resources, and perform hands‑on learning activities as directed.
• Any other duties as assigned by the reporting supervisor or manager.
