Job summary

Redwood Materials is seeking an Equipment Engineer to join the Production Engineering team in Sparks, NV. The role focuses on operating, sustaining, and improving manufacturing equipment across automated and semi-automated lines, leveraging PLC programming, 3D CAD, robotics, and vision systems.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronic, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of engineering experience in a high-volume environment.
  • 2+ years of experience developing and improving HMIs and with PLC programming, motion control, safety devices.
  • Experience with 2D/3D modeling software (AutoCAD and SolidWorks/CATIA preferred).
  • Experience teaching and troubleshooting vision systems (Cognex and Keyence preferred).
  • Experience commissioning and improving equipment with a proven OEE improvement track record.
  • Experience coding/debugging End of Line Test machines.
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to learn systems quickly using structured problem solving (DMAIC, Ishikawa, 5W, 8D).
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting; proficient with Microsoft Office, 2D CAD, and linear programming software.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for equipment performance and improvement of multiple production processes.
  • Support 24/7 production by responding to and resolving breakdowns quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Lead cross-functional improvement projects to enhance production lines and equipment serviceability.
  • Provide expert support to the Maintenance team and train technicians.
  • Create and improve preventative and predictive maintenance documents and schedules with the maintenance team.
  • Troubleshoot ladder logic to identify controls issues and program ladder logic (Beckhoff). Familiarity with Atlas Copco torque tool system for troubleshooting and improvement.
  • Participate in spare parts analysis and inventory development, cost reduction, and communication with vendors.

Position Summary:

The Equipment Engineer in the Production Engineering team will be a part of operating, sustaining, and improving the manufacturing equipment atRedwood BMC1. The best candidate for the position willdemonstratepreviousapplicable experience andhasa high aptitude to learn new skillsets in the position. The expectation is that Engineers will start with strengths in multiple given fields (PLC programming, 3D CAD, robotics, vision, etc.) and then learn all other areas from those who work with them. This role requires capability across the board to sustain all parts of the automated/semi-automated equipment.

Essential Duties andResponsibilities
  • Responsible for the equipment performance and improvement of multiple assigned production processes
  • Support24/7 productionbyresponding to and resolving breakdowns quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Active participant of cross functional teams while taking on improvement projects toassistin improvingproduction lines. Diagnoses equipment failures, finds root cause andimproveOverall Equipment Effectiveness. Lead equipment upgrades with a focus on serviceability,reliabilityand process capability
  • Becomeexpertlevel on allequipmentand responsible fortechnician training. Provide hands-on support toMaintenanceteam to troubleshoot and resolve downtimeissues.
  • Takes initiative to create, implement and improve preventative and predictive Maintenance documents and schedulesin collaboration with maintenance team.
  • Ability to troubleshoot ladder logic to appropriatelyidentifycontrols issues and program ladder logic (Beckhoff).Familiarity with Atlas Copco torque tool systemsto troubleshoot and continuously improve.
  • Participate in spare part analysis and inventory development, cost reduction, improvement working with Spares Department to RMA faulty components and communicate needs to the vendor
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronic, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of engineering experience in a high-volume environment
  • 2+ years of experience developing and improving HMI’s and with PLC (Ignition and Beckhoffpreferred) programming, motion control, safety devices
  • Experience with 2D/ 3D modeling software (AUTOCAD andSolidworks/CATIA preferred)
  • Experience teaching and troubleshooting vision systems (Cognex and Keyence preferred)
  • Experience commissioning and improving equipment. Have a demonstratedtrack recordof Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement, Preventative and Predictive Maintenance activities
  • Experience coding/debugging and troubleshooting End of Line Test machines
  • Good understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Safety, Ergonomics, Change Point Management, Spare Parts Management
  • Strongproblem solvingskills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly. Able toutilizestructuredproblem solvingtechniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) or Eight Disciplines (8D). Able to resolve high level performance issues into addressable actions
  • Experience with statistical data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Softwareproficiencies: Microsoft Office, 2D CAD, any linear programming software.

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
