Job summary

SEKISUI Aerospace in Orange City, IA seeks a Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor to lead a team that develops composite fabrication processes, tooling, and methods. You will drive tooling development, shop-floor support, and new product introductions to ensure quality with efficient capital use.

The role requires CAD experience, Lean/Six Sigma, FMEA/TPM, and strong communication. Expect a hands-on manufacturing environment with safety and continuous improvement focus.

Qualifications

  • Detailed understanding of GD&T.
  • Experience in Work Instruction creation.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication; able to prepare technical documents for customers.
  • Lean, Six Sigma or Kaizen continuous improvement experience.
  • Review drawings, models, and engineering specs to learn manufacturing methods.
  • Define sequences of operations to fabricate/assemble composite products.
  • Implement and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Establish qualification plans for processes and equipment.
  • Define requirements for development of equipment, fixtures and inspection tools.
  • Perform FMEA, TPM and process capability analysis.
  • Understand basic industrial engineering practices, time studies, statistics and value engineering.

Position

As a Manufacturing Engineer Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading a team that develops and improves composite part fabrication processes, methods, and tooling. Position may include design of tools, shop floor manufacturing support, process development and introduction of new products.

What you will do:

  • Lead and mentor other engineers
  • Develop tools, processes, machines and equipment to integrate the facilities and systems for producing quality product with the optimum expenditure of capital
  • Responsiblefor applying and establishing statistical methods, which control the process and maximize productivity.
  • Work Instructions/BOM creation

What you will need to be successful:

  • Detailed understanding of GD&T.
  • Experience in Work Instruction creation.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication skills; able to prepare technical documents to be sent to customers.
  • Implementation of continuous improvements by the use of Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen methods.
  • Reviewing drawings, models, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures and activities.
  • Establishment of sequences of operations to fabricate and assemble composite products that promote efficient utilization of equipment and labor.
  • Implementing and improving new manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in establishing qualification plans, in order to qualify processes and equipment to the customer specifications.
  • Capable of designing or defining the requirements for the development of equipment, robotics, Lay-up molds, Vacuum Holding Fixtures, Shop Aids, Positioning fixtures, Go-No-Go inspection tools required for the manufacturing of new products.
  • Capable of performing safety, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), Process Capability and Total Product Maintenance (TPM) for new and existing equipment.
  • Understanding basic industrial engineering practices, such as, time studies, statistical analysis, ergonomic impacts, and value engineering principals.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with Catia V5, Inventor, Solid Works, or other 3-Dimensional CADs required.
  • Skilled in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project.
  • ERP system experience

PreferredQualifications

  • Experience with composite process and specifications of thermoset and/or thermoplastic parts and structures.
  • Knowledge of Boeing and Airbus process and specifications.
  • Familiar with composite autoclave or oven curing cycles, thermal profiles, recipes, thermal effects, thermal expansion, wrinkles and tooling spring back effects.
  • Five to Seven years of aerospace engineering preferred.

Working Conditions

While performing the typical duties of this job, employees will experience the conditions noted below. PPE is provided to protect employees against physical harm or hazards in the workplace environment.

  • Exposure to loud sounds and distracting noise levels
  • Exposure to hazardous equipment
  • Exposure to contaminants
  • Usually work indoors. These sites may not be temperature controlled
  • Shared workspaces with other employees
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, and bending
  • Standing and/or walking for 8 to 12 or more hours per day (varies based on role, shift, and overtime)
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

Required PPE provided by SEKISUI Aerospace based on the employee’s position and exposure. Below are typical PPE used on the production floor. Appropriate PPE must be worn by all employees when on the production floor.

  • Full Face Shield
  • Gloves (Latex, Rubber, Chemical Resistant, General Duty)
  • Protective Apron
  • Respirator
  • Safety Glasses - Safety Goggles
