Job summary

Sensata Technologies is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager in Thousand Oaks to lead a team of manufacturing engineers and technicians. You will collaborate with Design, Process, Program Management, Marketing, and Quality to support new product development and production ramp-ups.

You will define resource needs, drive lean improvements, and manage capital budgets while ensuring processes meet uptime and quality targets.

Qualifications

  • Lean, waste elimination and 5S methodologies to drive efficiency.
  • Expertise in tooling, robotic integration, assembly line balancing, and factory layout optimization.
  • Knowledge of MES/ERP systems to track metrics and improve uptime.

Job description

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for managing a team of Manufacturing Engineers who will work closely with Design Engineers, Process Engineers, Program Managers, Marketing and Quality Engineers to support the development of new product lines. This includes the development of new equipment and processes as well as the creation of cost estimates of labor and capital.

General Responsibilities
  • Leverages engineering fundamentals, and organization to make sound decisions on complex technical issues
  • Provides direction for a team of process engineers and technicians. Establishes clear goals, strategies, and initiatives to drive the necessary changes to ensure achievement of production and financial metrics
  • Define process engineering resource requirements and capacity expansion projects and actively work to recruit or reassign resources to succeed
  • Manage multiple global business centers and global operation process engineering groups to identify the best strategy to converge on processes, equipment and product roadmap
  • Provide technical and organizational consultation for product teams
  • Develop synergies across multiple product lines
  • Understanding of market and implications for business as well as understanding of business strategy and business case development
  • Manage the training of technical information with specifics on projects/schedules and timelines
  • Responsibilities include understanding customer requirements and expectations, and developing/driving actions and schedules needed to support those program expectations
  • Interacts with management and customers on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines
  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals
  • Familiarity with manufacturing methods – welding, brazing, soldering, adhesive bonding, machining, stamping, molding and forming.
  • Basic knowledge of a core manufacturing processes
  • Transferring knowledge to make site personnel
  • Support improvement projects to reduce cycle time, defects and manufacturing cost
  • Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure processes are capable, have sufficient controls in place, can meet our delivery requirements, and meet our cost targets
  • Evaluate Sensata’s and supplier’s technical capabilities including, tooling design, build experience, maintenance program, processes and process controls, cell automation – if required, quality control systems, and materials knowledge
  • Manage all presonnel evaluations and is responsible for equipment selection
Experience / Qualifications
  • A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop team members

  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers
  • Deep knowledge of Lean, waste elimination, and 5S methodologies to drive efficiency.
  • Expertise in tooling, robotic integration, assembly line balancing, and factory layout optimization.
  • Proficiency in APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), and problem-solving frameworks like Six Sigma.
  • Ability to manage capital budgets, control costs, and oversee production ramp-ups from prototype to full-scale assembly.
  • Familiarity with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software to track metrics, analyze defects, and improve uptime.
  • Ability to align design, supply chain, and production teams to ensure a "design-for-manufacturing" pipeline.
  • Capacity to anticipate equipment failures, supply chain disruptions, and mitigate risks using methods like FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).

Base Salary Range: $108,000.00 - $148,500.00

In addition to base salary, Sensata offers competitive medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance plans, along with education reimbursement, wellness programs, a 401(k) retirement plan with Company matching, and a variety of paid time off, such as vacation or flex-time, sick, bereavement, and parental leave.

Certain positions are also eligible for short-term incentive and long-term incentive programs.

This position requires eligibility to obtain authorization under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
