Job summary

Oshkosh Corporation, through its Pratt Miller division, seeks a Manufacturing Engineer with a strong Lean background to lead process development for low-volume production in motorsports, defense and mobility projects. You will drive PFMEA, tooling planning, and equipment selection while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet customer requirements.

  • BS or MS in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related manufacturing engineering field.
  • 10+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Knowledge of APQP and PPAP processes.
  • Experience with vehicle and system troubleshooting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of process flow, PFMEA, error/mistake proofing, equipment planning, capacity analysis, plant layout, TPM and operator work instructions.
  • Design assembly fixtures that utilize advanced manufacturing technologies such as PLCs and torque tools.
  • Evaluate and select required production equipment.
  • Assist in the development of quality planning including control plans and gauge designs.
  • Assist in material planning including material flow, handling plans, and inventory safety stock.
  • Work with Design Engineers to identify DFA and DFMA opportunities.
  • Support cross-functional teams to resolve quality and delivery issues.
  • Apply lean manufacturing techniques to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Our range of research & development, engineering, prototype manufacturing, test & validation, and low-rate production capability help our customers bring their high-quality products to market faster. This position will work with a cross functional team to successfully launch products that meet our customer requirements. A successful Manufacturing Engineer at Pratt Miller must have the ability to use excellent problem-solving skills to come up with creative solutions in order to satisfy our wide range of customers. This individual must have extensive knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques and have the ability to apply them to a low-rate production environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • New Product Production Planning Lean proposal/quote development from a manufacturing perspective.
  • Lead the development of process flow, PFMEA, error/mistake proofing, equipment planning, capacity analysis, plant layout, total productive maintenance (TPM) and operator work instructions.
  • Design assembly fixtures that utilize advanced manufacturing technologies such as PLC, DC torque tools, etc.
  • Evaluate and select required production equipment.
  • Assist in the development of quality planning including control plans and gage designs.
  • Assist in material planning including material flow/handling plans as well as inventory level and safety stock plans.
  • Work with Design Engineers to identify design for assembly and design for manufacturing opportunities.
  • Production Support Work with cross functional team to solve customer issues related to quality and delivery.
  • Use continuous improvement techniques to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Track production metrics and use metrics to drive change to products and processes.
  • Company Initiative Support Develop common manufacturing requirements documents and best practices.
  • Assist to define roadmap for manufacturing capability growth.
  • Research and evaluate new advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • New Manufacturing Equipment and Technology Work with a cross-functional production team to assist in the selection of the right equipment and processes.
  • Regularly attend manufacturing technology trade shows and seminars.
  • Develop long-term technical partnerships.
  • Determine plan for implementation of new equipment and technology, including space, resource, and infrastructure requirements.
  • Develop business case for all new manufacturing equipment and technology.
  • Act as subject matter expert for all manufacturing equipment and technology.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Extensive knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Low volume product launch experience from initial concept to start of production.
  • Knowledge of APQP and experience with supporting the completion of PPAP requirements.
  • Full vehicle manufacturing and assembly.
  • Exceptional organizational ability with good follow-up skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent skills using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Outlook).
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

BS or MS in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or other engineering degree with manufacturing experience. 10+ years’ experience in Manufacturing Engineering.

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Vehicle and system troubleshooting experience.
  • Knowledge of automotive or defense industries.
  • Experience with an OEM or Tier 1 Automotive Supplier is a plus.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of processes such as assembly, fabrication, and machining.
  • Experience with implementing programmable logic control systems.
  • Contribution to evaluating and quoting new production opportunities.
  • Experience using 3D CAD programs such as Solidworks or Creo.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to lift 40 lbs.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

Must be flexible with schedule to accommodate fixed deadlines sometimes working. Saturday and or Sunday. Some travel may be required to customer and supplier locations.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $82,900.00 - $134,300.00 The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
