Job Summary:

We are looking for a talented Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Jamestown, NY. In this role, you will lead the planning, design, procurement, and implementation of changes to manufacturing equipment and systems, taking projects from concept through launch while leading and co‑leading cross‑functional teams. You will apply advanced manufacturing principles, lean methodologies, Six Sigma tools, and CAD/CAM platforms to optimize complex assembly and machining processes, with a particular focus on CNC metal cutting and processing equipment.

Beyond project delivery, you will serve as a technical anchor for the plant — troubleshooting high‑impact production issues, guiding capital spend decisions, and mentoring engineers and technicians to build capability across the team. Success in this role means balancing near‑term production commitments against long‑term strategic objectives while consistently advancing safety, quality, cost, and delivery performance.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
  • Lead manufacturing process projects end to end, ensuring safety requirements, manufacturing goals, business objectives, and product specifications are all met.
  • Drive equipment and capital procurement decisions that meet Cummins manufacturing specifications while delivering measurable return on investment.
  • Apply continuous improvement and waste reduction methodologies to reduce process cost, improve quality, and increase throughput.
  • Establish and advance manufacturing standards, working methods, and documented procedures that create consistency across the operation.
  • Resolve high‑impact production issues through systematic root cause analysis, implementing data‑based solutions that prevent recurrence.
  • Influence key external stakeholders, business leaders, and functional partners to align project scope, equipment strategy, and production scheduling.
  • Introduce advanced manufacturing technologies and digital modeling tools to enable data‑driven decisions before physical changes are made.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians, strengthening technical depth and problem‑solving capability across the team.
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex manufacturing and assembly projects, including capital spend planning and execution, from initial design through full implementation.
  • Advanced working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and CAD/CAM tools, with hands‑on experience in CNC metal cutting and processing equipment strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical judgment in equipment selection, tool and fixture design, and workstation and ergonomic design that balances cost, quality, delivery, and operator safety.
  • Proven influence and communication skills, with the ability to align cross‑functional teams and coach others toward operational excellence.
  • Track record of measurable process improvement, translating analysis and simulation into sustained productivity and cost gains.
Key Competencies:
  • Collaborates — Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
  • Communicates effectively — Developing and delivering multi‑mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
  • Health and Safety Fundamentals — Champions and models proactive health and safety behaviors by identifying, reporting and participating in actions to improve health and safety in order to build an interdependent culture and contribute to an injury‑free workplace.
  • Problem Solving — Solves problems and may mentor others on effective problem solving by using a systematic analysis process by leveraging industry standard methodologies to create problem traceability and protect the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data‑based solutions; identifies the systemic root causes and ensures actions to prevent problem reoccurrence are implemented.
  • Values differences — Recognizing the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
  • College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
  • Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.

A Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for leading the design, optimization, and continuous improvement of complex manufacturing processes to ensure efficiency, quality, and safety. They provide technical direction and mentorship to other engineers and technicians, fostering skill development across the team. This role requires close collaboration with cross‑functional groups to align projects, equipment, and scheduling while driving cost reduction and productivity initiatives. Senior engineers also play a key role in troubleshooting high‑impact issues, implementing advanced manufacturing technologies, and ensuring that assembly operations meet both short‑term production goals and long‑term strategic objectives.

Requirements, the individual should hold a relevant technical degree in engineering (such as Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering) . 5 years of experience in manufacturing or assembly engineering is expected, with a proven track record of process improvement, capital spend experience and project leadership.
