Manufacturing Engineer, Production & Quality
Boulder, CO (On-site)
Scrap Labs was founded under the belief that high performance metal 3D printing should be accessible to builders, labs, and small manufacturers, not just massive corporations. We are developing an ultra low cost, high performance metal powder bed fusion platform designed to be reproducible with off the shelf parts, minimal labor, and a scrappy, experimental ethos.
As Scrap Labs ramps from alpha units toward volume production, you will own the systems that make that possible: assembly stations, build workflows, work instructions, quality checks, and the feedback loops that catch problems before they reach customers. You will work hands on alongside a small, high output group of engineers and technicians, and everything you set up will directly shape how reliably we ship.
Responsibilities
- Design and stand up assembly stations, tooling, and fixtures for repeatable Scrap 1 production builds.
- Write and maintain clear work instructions, build procedures, and quality checkpoints for each production step.
- Establish incoming inspection, in process quality checks, and final test and validation for finished units.
- Track yield, cycle time, and failure data, drive root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Partner with the design team on design for assembly and manufacturability feedback.
- Plan and kit builds, managing BOM readiness and part staging so builds start complete and on time.
- Continuously improve throughput and consistency as production scales from tens to hundreds of units.
- Document everything so builds are reproducible by anyone on the team.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

- Ability to write clear documentation and communicate directly with technicians and suppliers.
Preferred Skills And Experience

- Experience with production workflows, assembly station setup, or quality systems, ideally for consumer hardware or machinery.
- Familiarity with standard work, 5S, root cause analysis, or other structured continuous improvement practice.
- Exposure to 3D printing, FDM or otherwise, is a plus.
- Comfort operating in a fast paced environment with shifting priorities and aggressive iteration cycles.
- Experience working alongside AI, knowing when it is appropriate to use it and when it is not.
