Job summary

Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager - Systems, Electronics & Test Fixtures in San Jose, CA. You will lead a team of engineers and contribute as an IC on sophisticated electronics, PCB/PCBA design, test fixtures, and electromechanical challenges.

Based in San Jose, you will collaborate with R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing to ensure manufacturability and compliance while driving continuous improvement across NPI and sustaining programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering.
• Advanced degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, prioritization, accountability, and team development.
• Lead systems manufacturing deliverables across NPI, sustaining programs, validation, reliability testing, repair, and production support.
• Drive documentation, MPIs, test procedures, validations, and process updates.
• Ensure fixtures are designed for manufacturability, serviceability, usability, safety, reliability, and long-term production support.
• Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Service, PMO, and Supplier Quality to represent manufacturing needs early.
• Communicate project status and risk clearly to leadership and cross-functional partners.

Education

Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering degree or equivalent experience

Key Role Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, prioritization, accountability, and team development.
• Drive accountability around ownership, communication, documentation quality, and execution.
• Balance workload across team members and ensure resources are aligned to priorities.
• Promote an environment where teamwork, technical rigor, and continuous improvement excel.
• Provide practical technical guidance to engineers and technicians during design, troubleshooting, validation, and production activities.
• Lead execution of Systems Manufacturing deliverables across NPI, sustaining programs, validation, reliability testing, repair, rework, and production support aligned to program priorities.
• Drive completion of manufacturing documentation, MPIs, rework instructions, test procedures, validations, and process updates.
• Ensure fixtures are designed for manufacturability, serviceability, usability, safety, reliability, and long-term production support.
• See opportunities to replace costly or obsolete components with improved alternatives while maintaining quality and compliance.
• Partner closely with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Service, OPM, PMO, Supplier Quality, and other partners to ensure manufacturing and capital equipment requirements are represented early.
• Communicate project status and risk clearly and regularly to leadership and cross-functional partners.
• Ensure team documentation is complete, accurate, clear, and audit-ready before review or release.
• Build strong teams through trust and mentorship.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives that reduce unplanned rework, improve manufacturing readiness, and increase execution efficiency.
• Promote knowledge-sharing and cross-training of team members to reduce single-point dependencies and improve overall team capability.
• Design & improve upon existing PCB/PCBA, electronics, wiring, harnessing, sensors, controllers, and electromechanical fixtures.
