Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer - Level 3 for our Space Sector in Dulles, VA. This 100% onsite role supports the Harness Work Center within the Space Superiority Division on a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience with soldering, harness assembly, and manufacturing processes, plus experience with Costpoint, SAP, MES, Solumina, TIPQA, and Windchill in an ISO/AS9100 environment. No clearance is required to start.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of professional experience, or higher degree with relevant experience.
  • No clearance required to start.
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes involving soldering, adhesives, testing, and harness assembly.
  • Experience with cable and harnessing.

Responsibilities

  • Authors and maintains production plans detailing the assembly of spacecraft hardware.
  • Participates in design peer reviews to ensure designs are manufacturable and documentation aligns with processes.
  • Evaluates non-conforming product and develops rework procedures to return flight hardware.
  • Partners with cross-functional groups to conduct root cause and corrective action investigations.
  • Optimizes operational workflow by developing manufacturing processes and introducing new tools for harness fabrication.
  • Responds to changing design requirements by revising production plans to meet flight configuration.
  • Designs and constructs full-scale mock-ups resembling spacecraft structure for harnessing.
  • Provides direct support to Technicians on the manufacturing floor in a rapid pace environment.
  • Acts as manufacturing lead on assigned programs to ensure roadblocks are alleviated while maintaining budget and schedule.
  • Supports additional activities identified by management.

This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. The Manufacturing Engineer will support out Harness Work Center (HWC) in our Space Superiority Division. This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

In this job, you will:
  • Authors and maintains production plans that detail the assembly of spacecraft hardware
  • Participates in design peer reviews to ensure designs are manufacturable and engineering documentation aligns with strict processes and procedures
  • Evaluates non-conforming product and develops rework procedures to return fit/form/function to flight hardware
  • Partners with cross-functional groups to conduct root cause and corrective action investigations
  • Optimizes operational workflow by developing manufacturing processes and introducing new tools and techniques for harness fabrication
  • Responds to changing design requirements at all stages of the build process by revising production plans and returning product to the intended flight configuration
  • Designs and constructs full-scale mock-ups resembling spacecraft structure to aid in the manufacturing of exact-fit harnessing
  • Provides direct support to Technicians on the manufacturing floor in a rapid-pace environment
  • Acts as manufacturing lead on assigned programs to ensure roadblocks are quickly alleviated while maintaining budget and schedule
  • Supports additional activities identified by management
  • Ensures processes and procedures comply with industry and internal standards
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master's degree with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience. Will consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • No clearance required to start
  • Hands‑on experience with manufacturing processes involving soldering, use of adhesives, testing, and harness assembly
  • Experience with cable and harnessing
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Experience with power tools and construction
  • Experience with Costpoint, SAP, MES, Solumina, TIPQA, Windchill
  • Experience working in an ISO or AS9100 environment

Northrop Grumman Total Rewards Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
