Job summary

Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support Tank Ammunition assembly activities at the Rocket Center, WV site. The role requires close collaboration with multiple departments to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in production.

The candidate should have a STEM degree and experience with manufacturing processes, CAD, GD&T, and Lean methods. On-site work only, with potential overtime as needed and eligibility for security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent STEM field.
  • 2+ years (Level 2) or 0 years (Level 2 with Master’s) of relevant experience for Level 2; 5+ years (Level 3) for Level 3.
  • Experience with HTV and RTV molding processes and equipment.
  • Experience with automated fluid dispensing equipment.
  • Experience with operation and programming of robotic part loaders.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with external customers and all plant personnel.
  • Computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience using CAD software.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret 2D drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all department and plant safety rules.
  • Review part prints and specifications to ensure production hardware and test articles meet safety, quality, engineering and configuration requirements.
  • Instruct machine operators on technique and operation of manufacturing equipment and gaging.
  • Perform observations of manufacturing process to establish reasonable expectation of daily throughput and opportunities for improvement.
  • Interface with all levels and departments of plant to support production.
  • Assist operations and maintenance in machine setup, training and trouble shooting of processes and equipment.
  • Prepare process drawings and work instructions.
  • Participate in tooling design and gage selection.
  • Monitor manufacturing process through review of SPC data.
  • Provide analysis and data to support review boards.
  • Willingness to work off shift when needed.

Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support Tank Ammunition assembly activities at our Rocket Center, WV location just outside of Cumberland MD. The Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) site in Rocket Center designs, develops, and manufactures tactical rocket motors, medium caliber ammunition, composite components and end items, and fuze and electronics equipment. For decades, the dedicated and highly skilled team at ABL have supported national security efforts by developing and building defense systems for DoD customers and U.S. allies.

This position will we be located on-site at our Rocket Center, WV location. No remote opportunities are available for this position.

Be eligible to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite).

Job Responsibilities

Basic Qualifications
  • Level 2: Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent STEM degree plus 2 years of total relevant experience; or Master’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent STEM degree plus 0 years of relevant experience.
  • Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent STEM degree plus 5 years of total relevant experience; or Master’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent STEM degree plus 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with HTV and RTV molding processes and equipment
  • Experience with automated fluid dispensing equipment
  • Experience with operation and programming of robotic part loaders
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with external customers and all plant personnel

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with rocket motor manufacturing or comparable manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with a variety of systems (i.e. pneumatic, hydraulic and electronic).
  • Experience with project management.
  • Experience in a production shop environment
  • Experience with multi-spindle machines
  • Experience with cold forming processes and equipment PLC programming experience
  • Demonstrated work ethic and hands‑on ability.
  • Experience with technical writing, writing detailed operating procedures, CAD and GD&T.
  • Experience using SPC and Six Sigma techniques.
Salary

Primary Level Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00 Secondary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
