Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Tooling Focused Manufacturing Engineer to design, develop, and optimize tooling solutions that support the production of space vehicles. You will collaborate with design, materials, and production teams to ensure tooling seamlessly integrates with manufacturing workflows and reduces cycle times.

The role requires a strong background in tooling design and metrology across composites, metals, and additive processes, plus expertise in SPC and lean methods.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years hands-on experience in advanced manufacturing tooling, preferably aerospace or high-performance industrial sectors.
  • Deep understanding of tooling design, fabrication, and metrology for composites, metallic, and additive manufacturing processes.
  • Expertise in SPC, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, commission, and continuously improve specialized tooling for composite layup, bonding, assembly, and inspection processes.
  • Collaborate with design, materials, and production to ensure tooling integrates with manufacturing workflows.
  • Analyze manufacturing data and recommend tooling enhancements to reduce cycle times and meet targets.
  • Develop and validate new tooling concepts, materials, and automation technologies.
  • Document tooling procedures, train staff, and provide technical guidance to technicians.
  • Stay abreast of tooling innovations and quality standards in aerospace.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Tooling Focused Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the design, development, and optimization of innovative tooling solutions to support the production of our revolutionary space vehicles and systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, commission, and continuously improve specialized tooling for composite layup, bonding, assembly, and inspection processes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, materials, and production to ensure seamless integration of tooling with manufacturing workflows
  • Analyze manufacturing data and recommend tooling enhancements to troubleshoot issues, reduce cycle times, and meet or exceed performance targets
  • Develop and validate new tooling concepts, materials, and automation technologies to push the boundaries of what’s possible
  • Document tooling procedures, conduct training, and provide technical guidance to production technicians
  • Stay abreast of the latest tooling innovations, equipment, and quality standards in the aerospace industry
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Industrial Engineering, or related technical field
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in advanced manufacturing tooling, preferably in the aerospace or high-performance industrial sectors
  • Deep understanding of tooling design, fabrication, and metrology for composites, metallic, and additive manufacturing processes
  • Expertise in statistical process control, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and data analysis skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Passion for space exploration and a drive to push the boundaries of what’s possible

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
