Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 3+ years of direct manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team with evolving design iterations.
  • Strong fundamentals in mechanical design and manufacturing processes.
  • Lean experience with the ability to communicate clearly and organize work.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing work instructions for receiving, fabrication, assembly, test, integration and refurbishment.
  • Closely manage cost, quality, build sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout manufacturing.
  • Review engineering drawings and provide final approval for manufacturing.
  • Develop process controls and analyze via statistical methods.
  • Define support for repair and rework activities, as needed.
  • Design, procure, install, and integrate custom manufacturing equipment.
  • Interface with suppliers to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of hardware.
  • Perform capacity analysis for equipment and processes.
  • Conduct root cause analyses for non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain proper material handling and packaging to protect hardware.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.Blue Origin is quickly standing up a new space thruster manufacturing line in Huntsville, AL. These thrusters will be critical to controlling space craft on orbit and during moon landings. As part of a hardworking team of engineers you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and optimization of manufacturing thrusters hardware. You will ultimately help our team to identify, develop, and deploy methods to both improve fabrication quality and optimize throughput.We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!**Special Mentions:*** Relocation provided* Travel expected up to 20% of the time* Shifts available: Day shift, Monday-Friday**Responsibilities include but are not limited to:*** Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define the following manufacturing process: receiving inspection, fabrication, assembly, test, integration, and refurbishment* Closely manage cost, quality, build sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout the entire manufacturing process* Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing* Develop process control measures and evaluation through statistical analysis* Define and support repair and rework activities* Design, procure, install, and integrate custom manufacturing equipment* Interface with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure that hardware and equipment is manufactured, processed, packaged, and delivered properly, on time, and on budget* Perform capacity analysis for manufacturing equipment and processes* Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions* Design proper material handling and packaging to protect hardware throughout the build and test process* Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and test process**Minimum Qualifications:*** 3+ years of direct manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university.* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment supporting constantly evolving design iterations* Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing* Familiarity with lean systems and methodologies* Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures* Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization* Exceptional organizational, analytical, and project management skills, particularly in regards to attention to detail* Hands on experience in hardware manufacturing (i.e. castings, forgings, additively manufactured components, welding, machining, cleaning, non-destructive testing methods, tight tolerance assembly, leak testing, final acceptance testing of integrated hardware, and Manufacturing Execution Systems/Software)* Record of completing manufacturing projects including but not limited to: design for manufacturability, cycle time reduction, and mistake proofing systems* Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion* Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum**Preferred Qualifications:*** Hands on experience with building flight hardware* 3+ year experience in an engineering capacity, including internships* Experience with design, development or production of launch vehicle, spacecraft, or satellites.* Proficient with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (Creo, NX, or CATIA V5)* Customer focused with a proven track record to work cooperatively with teams across large geographic distances.* Strong organizational and analytical skills* Proficiency with fabrication special processes (machining, grinding, forging, casting, welding, forming, rolling, etc)* Experience with hard and exotic metals* Experience with CNC programming**Culture Statement**Don’t meet all desired requirements?
