Job summary

Blue Origin in Kent, WA is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to design and implement efficient manufacturing systems, ensure stringent quality control, and optimize supply chain logistics for Production/Operations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate engineering requirements into repeatable manufacturing processes and develop critical work instructions.

As part of the Operations group, you will evaluate new manufacturing technologies such as composites and precision

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering from accredited university.
  • 3+ years manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering experience.
  • 1+ year creating English work instructions.
  • Must be able to work second shift and have flexibility to move shifts as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support the industrialization of new products in fluids, avionics, optics, antennas, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Contribute to DFM/ DFA/ DFT to build reliable space vehicles.
  • Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams to accelerate building a road to space.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation including work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans.
  • Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and methods (e.g., composites, precision machining, additive manufacturing, advanced assembly).
  • Support root cause analysis of process or product non-conformances and implement corrective actions.

This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. We are seeking a dynamic Manufacturing Engineer to join our Operations team at Blue Origin. This role will lead the design and implementation of efficient manufacturing systems, ensure stringent quality control throughout production, and optimize supply chain logistics specific to Production/Operations. The ideal candidate will be results-driven, skilled in resource management, and committed to high-quality standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline operations, reduce costs, and enhance production timelines. By leveraging advanced technologies and methodologies, you will contribute to improving manufacturing techniques, ensuring Blue Origin’s continued innovation and excellence in aerospace engineering.

  • Shifts: 1st | Mon-Fri (8am-5pm), A | Mon-Thu (5am-3:30pm), B | Mon-Thu (3pm-1:30am), C | Fri-Sun (5am-5:30pm), D | Fri-Sun (5pm - 5:30am)
  • Location: Kent, WA

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the industrialization of new products in areas such as fluids, avionics, optics, antennas, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Contribute to design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), design for test (DFT), key to building reliable vehicles for space exploration.
  • Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes that support Blue Origin’s mission.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams to accelerate building a road to space.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans.
  • Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and methods (e.g., composites, precision machining, additive manufacturing, advanced assembly).
  • Support root cause analysis of process or product non-conformances; develop and implement corrective actions that enhance reliability and performance.
  • Ensure all work aligns with applicable quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001), supporting a safe and sustainable future in space.
  • Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation of new production lines and equipment.
  • Identify and complete opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reduction, optimizing our ability to achieve our mission at scale.
Team Focus & Domain Expertise

Lunar Operations play a crucial role in the successful deployment and operation of Blue Origin’s Lunar vehicles. As a key component of our mission, Lunar Operations ensures that our vehicles are not only developed and assembled to the highest standards, but also thoughtfully tested and prepared for its Lunar journey. This division collaborates closely with engineering, quality assurance, and logistics teams to guarantee that the vehicle meets all mission requirements and performs flawlessly in the challenging lunar environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering role
  • 1+ years of experience creating English work instructions
  • Must be able to work second shift and have flexibility to move shifts as needed.
  • Open to work extended hours if required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in high-rate assembly lines for aerospace and/or automotive is preferred
  • Experience with a specialty commodity or technology like multi-layer insulation (MLI), machining, fluids fabrication, harness fabrication, or composite fabrication
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing including working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Experience working with Bill-of-materials and BOM reconciliation
  • Prior manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace or automotive
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing practices & principles
  • Experience with AS9100 quality standards
  • Base Pay Range for: WA applicants is $91,852.00 - $128,592.45
  • Other site ranges may differ
