Job summary

Blue Origin in Huntsville, TN seeks a Manufacturing Engineer to develop work instructions, support valve and integration machining, and manage cost, quality, and schedules across the fabrication process. You will review engineering drawings, implement process controls, and interface with suppliers to ensure timely, within-budget delivery of hardware.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in manufacturing engineering, a BS in Engineering, and hands-on CNC (5-axis) experience.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering from an accredited university.
• 5+ years of direct manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience.
• Experience in a machine shop with CNC 5-axis and lathes.
• Familiarity with CNC programming - NX preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment supporting evolving design iterations.
• Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Develop manufacturing work instructions for processes including material kitting, machining, deburring, inspecting, part marking, lapping, packaging.
• Support fabrication of machined parts for valves and integration.
• Closely manage cost, quality, build sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout manufacturing.
• Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing.
• Develop process control measures and evaluate through statistical analysis.
• Define and support repair and rework activities.
• Design, procure, install, and integrate custom manufacturing equipment.
• Interface with external suppliers to ensure on-time, on-budget manufacturing and delivery.
• Perform capacity analysis for equipment and processes.
• Perform root cause analyses and deploy corrective actions.
• Design material handling and packaging to protect hardware during build/test.
• Manage hardware configuration and pedigree throughout build/test.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define the following manufacturing process: material kitting, machining, deburring, inspecting, part marking, lapping, packaging and other process as needed
• Support the fabrication of machined parts for the valves and integration
• Closely manage cost, quality, build sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout the entire manufacturing process
• Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing
• Develop process control measures and evaluation through statistical analysis
• Define and support repair and rework activities
• Design, procure, install, and integrate custom manufacturing equipment
• Interface with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure that hardware and equipment is manufactured, processed, packaged, and delivered properly, on time, and on budget
• Perform capacity analysis for manufacturing equipment and processes
• Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions
• Design proper material handling and packaging to protect hardware throughout the build and test process
• Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and test process

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5+ years of direct manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited university
• Experience in a machine shop environment with CNC 5-axis and lathes
• Familiarity with CNC programing - NX preferred
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment supporting constantly evolving design iterations
• Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing
• Familiarity with lean systems and methodologies
• Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures
• Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization
