Job summary

Senior Aerospace SSP in California is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to own and optimize manufacturing processes for aerospace detail parts and assemblies. You will ensure manufacturability, establish robust work instructions, and drive tooling and process improvements on challenging programs.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering with aerospace experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own and oversee technical aspects of assigned projects across compliance, manufacturability, and cost targets.
• Develop and maintain clear work instructions for detail parts and assemblies.
• Apply operation time standards and create Work Combination Sheets (WCS).
• Assist in tooling design and ensure engineering changes are documented and implemented.
• Lead or participate in cost-reduction initiatives and participate in cross-functional teams.
• Support supplier processes and provide technical liaison between manufacturing and engineering.

Under minimal supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

• Responsible for and will be the focal point for all technical aspects of assigned project(s) in the following categories:
  • Compliance with customer/product procurement specification
  • Validate the manufacturing process meets all customer and internal requirements.
  • Initiate and support product manufacturability
  • Review and support planning document releases
  • Advanced Quality Planning (AQP)
  • Tooling requirements
  • Visual Work Instructions (VWI)
  • Meeting cost targets
  • Eliminating waste from manufacturing processes
• Responsible for clear and concise work instructions of detail parts, sub-assemblies, and top assemblies.
• Apply operation time standards as required, develop Work Combination Sheets (WCS).
• Ensure the manufacturability of detail parts, sub-assemblies, top assemblies as applicable to projects/programs.
• Potential liaison to provide technical assistance between Senior Aerospace SSP manufacturing and customer cognizant engineering.
• May be assigned to work with developing supplier processes and help correct supplier issues.
• Assist in the initial manufacturing cycle of all new detail parts, sub-assemblies and assemblies for assigned New Product Introduction (NPI).
• Follow up on the effectiveness of manufacturing processes.
• Identify, implement and drive cost reduction ideas. Assigned to special cost reduction initiatives as part of a muti-discipline team.
• Works on or leads a Production Support Team and partners with the other team members to address manufacturing issues.
• Performs Root Cause and Preventive Actions to eliminate causes for nonconforming products.
• Perform, document and validate component, assembly, and/or system processes such as machining, forming, stamping, heat treating, and chemical processing of the following materials:
  • Titanium
  • Inconel
  • Aluminum
  • Stainless Steel
  • 01 and D2 tooling steel
• Ensure that all engineering changes are documented and implemented.
• Coordinate and support the design of tooling as it applies to the manufacturing/assembly process.
• Develop sound manufacturing processes based upon Senior Aerospace SSP’s capabilities.
• Review production drawing(s) for technical content.
• Make recommendations and offer credible solutions to product, tooling and processes.
• Provides data and relevant information to the quoting process.
• Perform related work as required.
• Follow all Senior policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or another Engineering discipline with 3+ years of engineering experience preferably in an Aerospace environment. M.S degree in Mechanical Engineering or another Engineering discipline with 2+ years of engineering experience in an Aerospace environment
• Experience with fast-paced manufacturing environments is preferred.
• Knowledge of sheet metal processes (welding, forming, NDT, etc), geometric tolerances and aerospace materials is preferred.

Additional Information

Annual Target Salary = $85,000.00

Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:30pm
