Job summary

Sierra Nevada Corporation in Sparks, NV is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II to influence manufacturability early in the product lifecycle. You will apply DFM and DFA principles, design tooling, and optimize processes to ensure high-quality, cost-effective production from the start.

The role emphasizes collaboration with design and quality teams, implementing Lean and Six Sigma methods, and contributing to production readiness through documentation, flow, and fixtures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Discipline.
• 2+ years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering.
• Proficiency with CAD software and process documentation.
• Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
• Higher level degree may substitute for experience.
• Familiarity working in multi-disciplinary teams.

Job description

Do you enjoy collaborating with others to create innovative products and services? As a Manufacturing Engineer II, you will take an active role in shaping the manufacturability of our products. You will apply your expertise in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA), tooling design, and process engineering to develop and optimize manufacturing systems, ensuring products are designed for efficient, high-quality production from the start.

The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area provides affordable, turn-key command/control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection and security solutions worldwide. The MST team has a long legacy of supporting the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, commercial and international customers with years of experience in platform operations, engineering and full lifecycle management across domains - air, land, sea, space and cyber.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain detailed work instructions and process documentation.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma certification.
• Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies (e.g., 3D printing, CNC machining).
• Background in Aerospace and Defense industry.
• Familiarity in applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
• Knowledge industry standard design principles, to include, but not limited to, parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing and production processes.
• Participation in dispositions of Non-Conformance generation through a Material Review Board (MRB).
• Experience with new product introduction and transition to production.
• Exposure to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems.
• Circuit card assembly component troubleshooting, repair, or assembly.
• Understanding of ESD prevention measures.
• Knowledge of RF circuitry design and working principles.
• Experience working in the electronics industry.

Essential Functions

• Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment with occasional travel.
