Job summary

VAERO seeks a Manufacturing Engineering professional to develop and implement manufacturing plans and CAD programs for CNC equipment. You will program 3- to 5-axis NC systems, build CAD models, and prepare data for inspection and tooling, while driving cost reductions and quality improvements.

You will guide junior engineers and contribute to lean manufacturing initiatives in a dynamic environment, reporting to the Engineering Supervisor.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret blueprints, BOMs and assembly instructions.
• Formal training in CAD/CAM programming languages.
• Bachelor’s in a related technical field required.
• Minimum 4 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Program NC equipment on 3/5-axis aircraft parts using data banks or blueprints.
• Create wireframe or solid models for NC programming and tooling.
• Prepare inspection data for CMM verification from CAD data and NC programs.
• Design fixtures and cutters to fit NC machined parts.
• Develop work instructions, pre-plans and manufacturing schedules.
• Suggest manufacturing improvements to reduce cost and improve quality.
• Lead junior engineers and technicians in Manufacturing Engineering.
• Support LEAN initiatives and continuous improvement.

Job description

Summary: Responsible for the development and implementation of manufacturing plans and the development and revision of CAD programs for company CNC equipment and machines, for new programs and support of current manufacturing programs to achieve cost reduction, quality and delivery schedule. Works under the direction of Supervisor, Engineering.

• Program NC equipment on sophisticated 3-axis and 5-axis machined aircraft parts using vendor or KAC supplied data bank, mylars or blueprints.
• Create wire frame or solid models for use in NC part programming or NC tool fabrication and establish data transfer standards to coordinate with vendor NC equipment.
• Create inspection data for use in coordinate measuring machine to verify and inspect section cuts working from blueprints, wire frame models, vendor supplied CAD data and NC programs.
• Design holding fixtures and special cutter designs to coordinate with NC machined parts.
• Prepares Manufacturing Engineering, Tool Design and Tool Fabrication Work Instructions, develops pre-plans and activity schedules required to assure conformance to contract delivery requirements.
• Design production systems to meet cost, schedule, and quality objectives. Provide sustaining engineering as required; maintain and improve company’s competitive position by identifying, justifying and implementing manufacturing improvements. May assist in structuring departmental budgets.
• Conducts producibility studies to evaluate production process reliability and provide appropriate recommendations.
• Assist in development of technical portions of new business proposals including selection of manufacturing methods and production processes, selection of tooling and definition of costs required to implement.
• Perform make vs. buy analyses and provide related recommendations to management.
• Prepares specification of production operations, prepares vendor instructions for operations sourced outside the company, defines tooling requirements and issuance of tool orders to Tool Fabrication department.
• Interact with customer organizations including: providing recommendations regarding material selections, tool and product configuration and manufacturing tolerances that affect producibility, cost and schedules.
• Prepare standards from work center dictionary and incorporate into all work instructions.
• Prepare technical data and plans related to specific customer requirements and estimated related costs. Review Vendor Instructions (V.I.’s) blueprints and applicable specifications to determine inspection requirements.
• Prepare inspection summary sheets, (F.A.I.) First Article Pre-Plans and provide instructions for use.
• Direct and guide junior engineers and technicians in the Manufacturing Engineering department as assigned.
• Create and maintain records, data schedules and other pertinent information as required.
• Support LEAN activities, cellular standardization and continuous improvement as required.

Qualifications

• Broad knowledge of a general technical field such as mechanical, industrial or electrical engineering.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, bills of material, and assembly instructions utilized to build units, assemblies and/or machine parts.
• Proficient use of personal computer.
• Formal training in computer aided programming languages.
• Knowledgeable in one or more CAD software programs: Unigraphics, Master Cam, CAD/CAM, etc.
• Must have knowledge of CNC machine operations and processes.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field required.
• Fluent oral & written communication skills needed.
• Minimum of 4 years of related experience.
