Job summary

Gentex Corporation in Zeeland, MI is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to drive technical problem solving and continuous improvement on the manufacturing line. You’ll work with a team to implement and revise processes for efficiency and to meet customer expectations.

Responsibilities include monitoring production flow, optimizing equipment, leading line improvement initiatives, mentoring PSEs, and developing control plans and FMEAs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in a technical, scientific or related field.
  • 1+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to understand/use SolidWorks, PLCs and other manufacturing software platforms is beneficial.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce variation caused by equipment or product design.
  • Prioritize projects on the production line using best business practices.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure quality and customer requirements are met; resolve line rejects/RMA.
  • Own technical responses to 8D/RMA quality concerns and control methods.
  • Mentor incoming PSEs to develop technical skills and problem solving.
  • Assist in developing Control Plans, FMEA’s, Process Flow Charts and Assembly Drawings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineer II is the catalyst for technical problem solving and continuous improvement on the manufacturing line. This role works as part of a team dedicated to continuous improvement, implementing and revising processes to maximize efficiency and meet customer expectations.

What You’ll Do
  • Monitor production process to improve; product flow, yield, and uptime.
  • Optimize current equipment and improve process capabilities.
  • Develop the team to utilize problem solving techniques and methods, and provide leadership in the identification, analysis, and resolution of issues.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts within the line support team and manage product and process improvement initiatives on the production line
  • Identify and implement process improvements to eliminate variation in the production process caused by equipment and/or product design.
  • Prioritize projects and issues that are associated with the production line using best business practices.
  • Leverage technical resources to incorporate line improvements and remove barriers.
  • Represent the production team by interfacing with other departments to ensure that quality and customer requirements are met. Work with production Group Leaders, Production Support Engineers (PSEs), and team members to resolve quality issues, line rejects/RMA (Return Materials Authorization).
  • Owns technical responses to 8D/RMA quality concerns and control methods to maintain and improve process capability
  • Mentor incoming PSEs, focusing on developing technical skills and problem-solving issues.
  • Assist in the development of Control Plans, FMEA’s, Process Flow Charts and Assembly Drawings.

What To Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, scientific or related field.
  • 1+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to understand/use SolidWorks, PLC’s and other manufacturing software platforms beneficial.
  • Ability to learn and network the organization.
  • Proven analytical ability to understand and solve technical issues in a team‑oriented environment.
  • Inclination and willingness to get involved directly on the production floor.
  • Flexibility with work schedule to accommodate production and business needs, including occasional travel for vendor and customer visits.
