Job summary

General Motors in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Career Level Manufacturing Engineer to support high-volume machining and grinding processes on a full-time C-Shift.

You will lead technical documentation updates, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and provide training materials for maintenance staff while focusing on safety and quality. The role requires a BS in Engineering, 3+ years in manufacturing engineering, and the ability to work weekends and overtime.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering support role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Experience using office and engineering software, including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply structured problem-solving and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Ability to work C-shift, weekends, and overtime as business needs require.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure manufacturing technical documentation remains accurate and up to date.
  • Provide technical direction to internal teams and oversight of external vendors to ensure processes, equipment, and solutions meet quality, efficiency, and production requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive problem-solving efforts, including improving equipment efficiency, resolving downtime events, and addressing customer quality concerns.
  • Provide day-to-day support for manufacturing operations and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in identifying and resolving safety and ergonomics issues.
  • Facilitate or deliver training for team members and maintenance personnel, including developing technical training manuals and work instructions as needed.
  • Support project planning and coordination to ensure tasks are completed on schedule and within budget.

The Role

The Career Level Manufacturing Engineer will be skilled in manufacturing equipment, tooling, process improvements, and overall manufacturing process support. This role operates in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where innovation, creativity, and initiative are applied to support current operations. The position will focus on high-volume machining and grinding processes and is a C-Shift assignment.

What You’ll Do

You will support manufacturing operations through a variety of technical and cross-functional activities, including:

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering support role within a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • Working knowledge of high-volume manufacturing environments
  • Experience using computer-based office and engineering software, including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
  • Demonstrated ability to apply structured problem-solving and root cause analysis techniques
  • Ability to work C-shift, weekends, and overtime as business needs require
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering support role within a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of CNC machining processes, including ID grinding, OD grinding, drilling, milling, and turning
  • Knowledge of high-volume fabrication manufacturing
  • Proficiency with CAD Software
  • Experience with statistical analysis
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience performing tolerance stack-up analysis
