Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for the Toledo, Ohio plant on the 2nd shift (3:00 PM–11:00 PM). The role focuses on troubleshooting, tooling, and continuous improvement within a manufacturing setting, with cross-functional collaboration and training of a small team.

The candidate will analyze data to support cost reductions and tool life improvements, develop permanent corrective solutions, and ensure adherence to GM standards across processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated high level of analytical ability including experience with structured technical problem solving (e.g., RedX or Design for Six Sigma).
  • Team environment experience to understand product, processes, and failure modes.
  • Ability to manage multiple and difficult projects with autonomy and accountability for results.
  • Proven troubleshooting experience with production equipment.

  • Direct the design, development, and/or improvement of manufacturing processes for the assigned area.
  • Provide direction to a small group of technical employees and lead cross-functional teams.

This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Toledo, Ohio plant on a full-time basis. Must be willing to work weekends.The Role:Work is technical in nature with decisions made within the limits of general practices, policies, and standards. Work is performed in a manufacturing plant where creativity and initiative are exercised as well as independent judgment. Work involves the need to troubleshoot issues and support problem solving practices. Ability to analyze data to support cost reductions and tool life improvements. Ability to work autonomously with occasional guidance from supervision is a must. Must have the ability to work across multiple functions, training others, and assign work to a small group of employees. As well as playing a key role as the tooling and gaging point of contact, the successful candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting equipment and implementing permanent corrective solutions in a manufacturing department.
