Job description

Who is Re:Build Fikst?

Re:Build Fikst, a Re:Build Manufacturing company, is a dynamic product development and engineering consulting firm located in Wilmington, MA. We work with pioneering clients to develop their technology, design their products, and bring those products to production. Re:Build Fikst's areas of expertise include industrial automation, robotics, biomedical instruments and consumables, microfluidics, specialty plastic design, optics, and design for manufacturing. We have extensive in-house laboratory and rapid prototyping capability including CNCs, 3D printers and laser cutters, which help facilitate our ability to prototype and innovate fast. As part of Re:Build Manufacturing, we are able to collaborate with other member sites and leverage a greater network of capabilities including composites, industrial design, structural analysis, and embedded systems design.

Who is Re:Build Manufacturing?

Re:Build Manufacturing is rekindling America's manufacturing base and creating meaningful, sustainable jobs in areas that have been deindustrialized over the past 20-30 years. Our strategy is to employ technology, systems, deep financial resources, and best management practices to compete and win as manufacturers in the global market. We are NOT private equity. We do not buy companies with the intention of selling them. Over the next decades, we want to make a difference in the US Manufacturing economy and the communities in which we operate. We believe in the power of people and the long-term competitive advantage that can be derived from helping our employees achieve their fullest potential.

We Are Looking For:

  • Creative problem solvers who can use engineering fundamentals and first principles to quickly create significant value on the production floor where standard manuals don't exist.
  • Hands-on craftspeople who are as comfortable operating in our machine shop or using prototyping tools as they are creating manufacturing workflows.
  • Strong communicators who can gracefully interface with cross-functional teams and collaborate transparently with clients.
  • Life-long learners who are energized by jumping into ambiguous project spaces, testing new boundary conditions, and adjusting when plans evolve.
  • Collaborators and mentors who actively share knowledge, support their peers, and naturally help look out for the team’s workload balance.

What You'll Get to Do:

We’re hiring manufacturing engineers who are excited for the variety and challenge of product development.

Transitioning a technology or device from a working prototype into a robust production stream is full of unseen hurdles. In this role, you will be working with a small and growing team to set up, maintain and refine manufacturing lines within our dedicated low-volume production operations space.

  • Architect Production Lines:Help design the tactical layout, station flows, and line balances for custom, small-scale assembly cells designed to maintain high quality and efficiency. You will assist with kitting strategies, author assembly procedures, provide operational input during early design phases, and help pass down crucial process knowledge to the team.
  • Equipment Sourcing & Specification: Take full ownership of vetting, purchasing, and deploying specialized line equipment—such as sourcing a heat sealer to process foil-sealed biomedical plastic cups filled with buffer solutions.
  • Design Custom Tooling & Fixturing: Design and then use SolidWorks to model custom nests, perimeter clamping devices, alignment blocks, and check gauges. You will directly leverage first-principles thinking to balance quality with rapid manufacturing line launches.
  • In-House Fabrication: Fabricate your custom tooling variants by utilizing Fikst's extensive rapid prototyping resources, manual tools, and machine shop assets (including CNC mills/lathes, 3D printers, and laser cutters).
  • Process Refinement & Validation: Establish and run baseline process tests (e.g., thermal profiling, force vs. displacement mapping, vacuum leak rates) to fine-tune production equipment and prove out reliable manufacturing parameters.
  • Cross-Functional Player-Coach: Work dynamically alongside multi-disciplinary project engineers, line technicians, and external vendors.
  • Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFM/DFA): Partner with product development engineers to optimize products for manufacturability, assembly, testability, reliability, serviceability, cost, and production scalability.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Lead structured root cause investigations using engineering principles and data to identify manufacturing issues and implement robust corrective actions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Evaluate manufacturing processes to continuously improve quality, throughput, ergonomics, yield, and cost.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Education: B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: 3–5+ years of industry experience working in custom machinery integration, product launch, line deployment, or an initial pilot production setting.
  • Drawing experience: Proficient in creating, editing and reading 2D production drawings from component to top level assembly drawings. Knowledge of GD&T is desirable.
  • CAD experience: Proficient 3D modeling experience (SolidWorks preferred) coupled with structured drawing practices for custom fixturing.
  • Machining & Prototyping: Practical, hands-on familiarity with physical shop environments—knowing how to run manual or basic CNC equipment, leverage 3D printing (FDM/SLA), or tap into rapid tooling options to build your own concepts.
  • Process Engineering Mindset:Experience in capital equipment validation, material selection compatibility (such as polymers and adhesives), and line debugging.
  • Industry Context: Background navigating precision assembly parameters in high-mix or consulting environments is a plus. Familiarity with medical devices, biotechnology automation, or working under standard quality frameworks (such as an ISO-13485 eQMS) is highly desirable.
Additional Details

Compensation: The anticipated base salary range for this role is [$88,000-$132,000]. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. This role is also eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentive compensation (LTIP), in addition to a competitive benefits package.
