Qualifications

• 8 years of professional experience in manufacturing engineering, CNC programming, and floor-support operations.
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related STEM field.
• Proven experience programming and operating 3-, 4-, and 5-axis mills and live-tooling lathes using CAM software.
• Deep knowledge of cutting tool technology, fixture design, and machining parameters.
• Lean manufacturing experience to drive productivity and reduce costs.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to train technical staff across teams.
• Active Secret clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Continuously partner with floor machinists to improve machining efficiencies and provide hands-on training.
• Create production-level CNC programs using CAM systems and verify first-piece runs on 3, 4, and 5-axis mills and live-tooling lathes.
• Apply cutting tool technology, fixture design, and machining parameters to establish best practices and lean methods to reduce costs.
• Provide feedback to design and drafting teams to incorporate machining considerations into product design iterations.
• Conduct technical research for new equipment acquisitions and ROI justification reports.
• Support new product introductions, generate tooling concepts, and provide accurate cycle-time estimates for bids.
• Act as troubleshooter for assembly and machining processes, coordinating with Purchasing, Quality, and Engineering teams.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment following all safety and environmental regulations.

Job description

This position requires onsite work in Tucson, AZ and an active Secret security Clearance. Candidates who do not hold this clearance are not eligible for hire.

Solidus is seeking a highly technical and analytical Manufacturing Engineer - CNC Programming and Floor Support to optimize production throughput and lead manufacturing efficiencies within a precision machining environment. In this role, you will leverage your advanced machining expertise to troubleshoot CNC equipment, develop production-level programming, and bridge the gap between design engineering and floor operations. You will serve as a technical leader, continuously training machinists and implementing lean practices to ensure the highest standards of safety, quality, and cost efficiency.

Day In The Life

• Continuously partner with floor machinists to improve machining efficiencies and provide hands-on training to meet strict hardware requirements
• Utilize expert knowledge of cutting tools and machining parameters to create production-level CNC programs using Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) systems, proving out first-piece runs on 3, 4, and 5-axis mills and live-tooling lathes
• Apply knowledge of cutting tool technology, fixture design, and machining techniques to establish production best practices and implement lean manufacturing methods to reduce costs
• Provide critical feedback to design and drafting engineering functions to incorporate machining considerations into future product design iterations
• Conduct technical research for new equipment acquisitions and develop comprehensive Return on Investment (ROI) justification reports
• Support new product introductions, generate tooling concepts, and provide accurate cycle-time estimates for bidding purposes
• Act as the primary troubleshooter for assembly and machining process issues, collaborating with Application Engineering Purchasing, Quality, suppliers, and customers to resolve problems
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment by strictly following safety and environmental regulations and reporting incidents promptly
• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Active Secret clearance is required
• 8 years of professional experience in manufacturing engineering, complex CNC programming, and floor-support operations within a machining environment
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related STEM discipline
• Proven, advanced experience programming and operating 3, 4, and 5-axis mills and live-tooling lathes using CAM software
• Deep understanding of cutting tool technology, custom fixture design, and machining parameters
• Demonstrated success utilizing lean manufacturing principles to drive productivity, enhance reliability, and lower production costs.
• Excellent communication skills with a track record of effectively training technical staff and collaborating across purchasing quality, and engineering teams
