Job summary

Schreiber Foods, Inc. in Shippensburg, PA, seeks a Manufacturing Engineer to optimize dairy production processes, including cream cheese and yogurt, to boost yield, reduce waste, and improve throughput while upholding strict food safety and quality standards.

You will collaborate with Operations Excellence, Data Science, and Maintenance to implement data-driven improvements, perform FMEA, establish control plans, and lead equipment installations from concept to commissioning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Packaging, Electrical, Chemical or related).
  • Minimum 36 months of experience in a similar manufacturing role in food or food packaging.
  • Experience identifying and eliminating process waste and driving efficiency in food manufacturing.
  • 3 years in tray packaging machines and box forming/filling equipment.
  • Experience in FDA-regulated manufacturing, applying sanitary design, and HACCP/GMP compliance.
  • Project management experience across planning, execution, and cross-functional coordination; 12+ months of managing multiple projects; AutoCAD and SolidWorks experience.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and optimize existing food manufacturing processes for cream cheese and yogurt to improve efficiency and cost savings.
  • Design and implement yield improvements, reduce waste, and increase throughput while maintaining food safety and quality.

Job Description

Schreiber Foods, Inc. has an opening for a Manufacturing Engineer in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Duties include:

  • Evaluate and optimize existing food manufacturing processes, including those specific to cream cheese and yogurt, to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, productivity, process capability, risk reduction, and cost savings.
  • Design and implement improvements to enhance yield, reduce waste, increase throughputs, improve cycle times, reduce bottlenecks, and streamline operations while maintaining strict adherence to food safety and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with Operations Excellence and Data Science/Analytics teams to leverage data for process optimization.
  • Collaborate cross functionally to scale up new cream cheese or yogurt products from concept to production, ensuring seamless integration into existing manufacturing processes.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Reliability Engineering to ensure equipment uptime and reliability as well as integrate predictive maintenance strategies. Collaborate with Maintenance and Reliability Engineering for long-term solutions.
  • Lead or assist in the development of new equipment installations or modifications, from concept to commissioning, with a focus on maximizing output, minimizing downtime, and reducing operational risk.
  • Utilize data analysis and statistical techniques to identify bottlenecks, process variability, and areas for improvement in production processes. Implement data-driven solutions to increase overall efficiency while mitigating operational risk and collaborating with Operations Excellence and Data Science to refine analytics models.
  • Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to proactively identify potential failure points, risks, and weaknesses in processes and equipment. Develop strategies to reduce operational risk and enhance process reliability, working closely with Reliability Engineering.
  • Define and own manufacturing process control plans. Set up in-process measurement systems. Complete GR&R activities to ensure effectiveness. Set up process monitoring and trending, including SPC of critical parameters.
  • Perform process capability studies to predict manufacturing process trends to allow us to meet customer specifications and create stability in day-to-day operations.
  • Working collaboratively, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Participate in the selection and evaluation of equipment, tools, and materials to ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness, specifically focusing on enhancing productivity and reducing operational risk. Partner with Controls Engineering and leverage automation and digitalization opportunities.

Requirements

Employer requires a minimum of Bachelor’s degree or foreign U.S. equivalent in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Packaging, Electrical, Chemical or a related) and 36 months of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

  • 24 months of experience working in food or food packaging manufacturing in a manufacturing environment
  • 12 months of experience identifying and eliminating process waste while driving process efficiency improvements in food or food packaging manufacturing environment.
  • 36 months of experience with tray packaging machines and box forming/filling equipment
  • 36 months of experience working in an FDA regulated manufacturing environment, applying sanitary design principles, and ensuring compliance with hygiene and food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP, FDA)
  • 12 months of project management experience encompassing planning, execution, and cross functional coordination, including 12 months of experience managing multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced production environment. 6. 36 months of experience using AutoCAD or similar 2D/3D programs for layouts, equipment, or process drawings, and 12 months of experience using SolidWorks for mechanical design, modeling, or documentation.
  • 36 months of experience optimizing print packaging operations by verifying lithographic corrugated case quality, preventing out of spec materials, and reducing machine scrap and unplanned downtime to support higher production throughput.
