Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to optimize CNC machining processes, improve quality, delivery, and cost performance on the Sherwood, OR shop floor. The role provides hands-on production support and leads continuous improvement initiatives across production, quality, and engineering teams.

The ideal candidate will have a BS in Engineering with 5+ years in manufacturing engineering, strong CNC/GD&T knowledge, and hands-on NPI experience.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering and 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting machining operations and shop-floor production.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining, GD&T, drawings, tooling, fixtures, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with process improvement, Lean, Six Sigma, and root-cause analysis.
  • Hands-on with NPI, process validation, and production launches.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP, PLM, QMS, CAPA, SPC, and process controls.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for production issues including quality concerns, downtime, tooling, and part shortages.
  • Analyze data to optimize ERP routings, cycle times, setups, and fabrication processes.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, work instructions, and process standards.
  • Lead continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, value stream mapping, kaizen, and RCA.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering to improve KPIs.
  • Drive CAPA and support process and product quality improvements.
  • Support NPI activities including design reviews, tooling, and process validation.
  • Recommend and implement capital equipment, tooling, and operator training.
  • Improve CNC operations through program/tooling/setup optimization.
  • Use CAD/CAM tools to design fixtures, tooling, and layouts.

Manufacturing EngineerJob Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for improving machining and manufacturing processes to drive quality, safety, delivery, and cost performance. This role provides hands‑on production support, resolves manufacturing issues, leads continuous improvement initiatives, supports new product introduction (NPI), and collaborates across production, quality, and engineering teams to optimize operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for production issues including quality concerns, machine downtime, tooling challenges, and part shortages.

  • Analyze manufacturing data to develop and optimize ERP routings, cycle times, setup standards, and fabrication processes.

  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, work instructions, process standards, and engineering change implementation.

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts using Lean, Six Sigma, value stream mapping, kaizen, and root cause analysis methodologies.

  • Partner with production, quality, and engineering teams to improve KPIs related to quality, delivery, inventory, and safety.

  • Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and support process and product quality improvements.

  • Support NPI activities including design reviews, tooling and fixture design, work cell development, process validation, and inspection methods.

  • Recommend and implement capital equipment, tooling, and process improvements, including equipment deployment and operator training.

  • Improve CNC machining operations through optimization of programs, tooling, setups, and part family strategies.

  • Utilize CAD/CAM tools to design fixtures, tooling, layouts, and related manufacturing documentation.

Essential Skills/Qualifications
  • BS degree in Engineering (Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or similar) and 5+ years of demonstrated manufacturing engineering experience.

  • Manufacturing engineering experience supporting machining operations and shop‑floor production.

  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining, GD&T, engineering drawings, tooling, fixtures, and process troubleshooting.

  • Experience with process improvement, cost reduction, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis.

  • Hands‑on experience with NPI, process validation, and production launch activities.

  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP, PLM, QMS, CAPA, SPC, and manufacturing process controls.

  • CAD proficiency (AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar) and experience designing tooling, fixtures, or work cells.

  • Strong project management, organizational, analytical, and cross‑functional communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, value stream mapping, and kaizen events.

  • Background in machining, assembly, welding, and related manufacturing processes.

  • Experience with equipment selection, capital projects, tooling design, and work cell optimization.

  • Familiarity with inspection methods and quality control techniques for machined components.

Work Environment

100% onsite, as a hands‑on manufacturing engineering role working closely with CNC machining operations, production teams, quality, and engineering. The environment emphasizes continuous improvement, operational excellence, and direct shop‑floor support.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $94000.00 - $135000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
