Job summary

Tenneco in Nebraska is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to lead engineering support and continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.

The role partners across functions to ensure robust processes, reliable equipment, and successful product launches while promoting a Lean, data-driven culture. A Bachelor's in Engineering and 5+ years of manufacturing experience are preferred, with APQP/PFMEA knowledge and CAD/ERP proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience with APQP and/or core tools (PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC) preferred.
  • Automotive or Tier 1 manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt) preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ERP experience (SAP) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, and automation improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS, quality systems, and customer requirements.
  • Lead capital projects from justification through installation and validation.
  • Drive equipment reliability and process capability improvements with Maintenance and Quality.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, 5S, and structured problem-solving tools.
  • Track and report performance metrics (productivity, scrap, safety, delivery).
  • Support new product launches including APQP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and PPAP readiness.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, standards, and work instructions.
  • Partner with leadership to execute plant CI strategy and support operational readiness.
  • Coach and influence teams on CI tools, accountability, and standard work.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience preferred
  • Experience with APQP and/or core tools (PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC) preferred
  • Automotive or Tier 1 manufacturing experience preferred

REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Lean or Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt) preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred)
  • Working knowledge of CAD and data analysis tools
  • Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment including standing, walking, and accessing equipment for extended periods
  • Frequent movement between office and production floor
  • Ability to work around industrial equipment safely
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in varying physical positions (bend, reach, climb) frequently

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to variations of noise, dust, temperature, and industrial equipment
  • Required use of PPE (safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, hearing protection)
  • Combination of office-based engineering work and hands-on shop floor support
  • May require on-call support for troubleshooting and/or off-shift and/or weekends to support coverage gaps, production, launch activities, CI initiatives and/or project implementation
