Job description

Eaton’s ES GEIS CHD division is currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer. This role is onsite at our Roanoke, VA facility. Relocation is not provided.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $86,000 – $126,000 a year.

What you’ll do
  • Design, develop, and improve mechanical components, assemblies, and manufacturing processes to enhance product performance and manufacturability
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) activities, including prototype builds, process development, and production readiness
  • Evaluate existing products and processes to identify opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency gains, and quality improvements
  • Develop and implement tooling, fixturing, and assembly methods to support safe and efficient production
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues in production and implement robust corrective actions
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to improve yield, reduce scrap, and optimize throughput
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and work instructions
  • Support testing and validation of products to ensure compliance with performance and reliability requirements
  • Work with suppliers to specify components, resolve technical issues, and improve part quality
  • Lead or support continuous improvement (Lean/Six Sigma) initiatives across assembly operations
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and engineering best practices
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Ineligible for immigration sponsorship or support for this position: no CPT, OPT, STEM OPT, F-1, H-1B, H-1B cap registration, O-1, E-3, TN status, 1‑485, etc.
  • No relocation is offered for this position. All candidates must currently reside within 50 miles of Roanoke, VA to be considered. Active‑Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in high-volume assembly or electromechanical manufacturing
  • Knowledge of DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturability/Assembly) principles
  • Experience with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or similar)
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Experience supporting SMT, automated assembly, or testing systems
  • Exposure to ERP systems (SAP preferred)
  • Project management experience, including leading cross‑functional initiatives

  • Strong mechanical design and problem‑solving skills
  • Hands‑on approach with the ability to work both on the floor and in engineering environments
  • Effective communication and collaboration across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced setting
