Job summary

Orion Castings is seeking a Process Engineer to analyze and improve manufacturing methods, tooling, and equipment on the shop floor and in the office. You will track KPIs using ERP data and lead root cause analysis for quality, downtime, and scrap issues.

Involvement in APQP/PPAP and new product launches ensures manufacturability and smooth production handoffs. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 2–5 years in manufacturing, with strong lean, Six Sigma, and problem-solving

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (die casting or machining preferred).
  • Strong understanding of lean manufacturing, process control, and continuous improvement tools (e.g., Kaizen, 5S, Six Sigma).
  • Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks or AutoCAD) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Effective communicator and team player with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, develop, and implement improvements in manufacturing methods, process flow, tooling, and equipment.
  • Track KPIs and collect data from the ERP system to support improvements and monitor project effectiveness.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality, scrap, or downtime issues.
  • Participate in APQP, PPAP, and new product launch activities; ensure manufacturability and smooth transition to production.
  • Design and specify fixturing, tooling, and layout changes as needed to improve workflow or quality.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, tooling, and production teams to resolve process bottlenecks or technical challenges.
  • Support capital equipment justification and installation, including development of Capital Expenditure Requests (CERs).
  • Track and report on engineering projects, downtime trends, and continuous improvement metrics.
  • Ensure processes comply with safety standards and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and updated work instructions and process documentation.
